I can't argue because i don't know much, i can't support nor go against either clubs (caucasian vs. Middle Eastern Jesus) but i believe your points make sense, i also lean towards an "arab like" or "pure jew like" jesus. Ive noticed the similarly is big, and since jesus is basically a jew, then he's supposed to look like jews / arabs

I believe Jesus looked perfect, i don't know how but no matter how a painting is beautiful (like yours), it will never be close

@inaccessible A LOT of people, at my church and elsewhere, get very worked up about the physical appearance of Jesus the Christ. I have had people tell me, "I KNOW what Jesus looks like, and he doesn't look like that." SMH. You can't even tell them that Jesus had very tan skin, racially. They only believe in white Jesus with blue eyes and light brown hair, because those are the paintings they have always seen, painted by white people with blue eyes and light brown hair.

Anyway, this was my attempt to combine the reconstruction of the face of a deceased man, who was alive at the same time that Jesus lived, with my own inner concept of him, which tells me that His eyes must have been beautiful and compelling, because he commanded the love and respect of so many people who actually knew Him.

Jesus actually looked so much like his apostles that the soldiers who came to arrest Him at the garden of Gethsemane had to be told which one of them He was. That is in the Bible. At the time that Jesus lived, the men of his country all looked very similar to one another.

I do NOT wish to argue with you...only to tell you that no one actually KNOWS.

Your charcoal portraits really are beautiful. I've got to get out my sticks and get to work!
4meAndyou · F
@daydeeo I sure would like to see your work when you do! The one above is not a portrait...it is from my imagination, of what I think Jesus really looked like. It was done in pencil.
William1 · 31-35, M
This is awesome! I feel like it actually depicts multiple people all in one face. I won't comment on who I see in this face, because people lose their minds over certain subjects these days. But this is beautiful!
4meAndyou · F
@William1 Well, although I am not excusing the historic inaccuracy of artists who used their own race as a model.you do have to have someone to sit for you when doing a masterwork...such as the Last Supper, AND I am sure even Leonardo da Vinci was not about to travel to the Holy Land to find models.

I didn't use a real person as a model, because I am not wealthy, but you are correct in your observation that this drawing is a composite.
William1 · 31-35, M
@4meAndyou I think it's amazing. The fact that you really do not have any sort of political or racial bias that would influence your depiction of how you feel he should look, is what makes it even better.
4meAndyou · F
@William1 You know, I showed this drawing to some people at my local church, and it was so disappointing to me, personally. The most negative comment I remember is, " I KNOW what Jesus looks like and He doesn't look like that." I think what shocked me was the vicious tone of voice. I was challenging the reality of her personal Jesus...and let's face it...every Christian has a personal Jesus...and so does every artist who paints Him or draws Him. Often, people will choose a personal concept that they saw in their childhood. And people REALLY don't like you to mess with that.

This is amazing. I'm a pencil artist myself and I can tell that you have such talent. If you have time, take a look at my own. You won't regret it. 👍♥️
4meAndyou · F
@xSiFiGamer2016x I didn't see your comment here, my friend. Many apologies! I will be sure to make an effort today to view your drawings. Your self portrait is very good!

Wow.. just pencil ?
4meAndyou · F
@in10RjFox I've been drawing since I was about seven years old, and portraits just seemed to come naturally.
in10RjFox · M
@4meAndyou no wonder.. since practice brings perfection.. and drawing is your second nature now..
4meAndyou · F
@in10RjFox You are extremely kind. You say very nice things.
SW-User
This is yours? If so, you're amazing.
4meAndyou · F
@SW-User Thank you once again. I am still stuck on converting it into a painting. I've always been that way. I have to think for a very long time before I put paint on canvas.
SW-User
@4meAndyou would you describe yourself as a perfectionist?
4meAndyou · F
@SW-User I used to be a perfectionist, more so than I am now. I think I've outgrown it, but I do know, from hard experience, that canvas can be unforgiving. There are times when you just can't paint over something, because you can see the brush strokes underneath.
Puremichfun · 56-60, M
