Student. Becoming Homeless. Next Step?

So, I'm 23 years old, and got accepted in a PhD program. I was originally going to commute from home. I had been living with my parents. Woke up this morning, got in an argument. Vomited from the stress. Got in another argument, and pretty much been told to pack my stuff and leave. I don't have any money. I'm still waiting to see if my financial aid will even support my tuition. I'm wondering if I should notify the university that I'll be homeless. Any advice?

If you can't patch things up, talk to someone at Uni. They will most likely be able to help you find financial support and living assistance.

@MarkPaul Thank you
Some on-campus housing can be paid with financial aid, look into that. Check out some local women shelters, see if you can stay at friend's house (just for a couple weeks to a month while you get back on your feet and have enough money to stay in a hotel/rent an apartment for a month), or stay in an extended stay hotel (we have a few here in San Antonio, comes with a full kitchen).
You may want to go back and try to re-negotiate with your parents to stay for another month to save up money and then move. Apologize, do whatever you can. Or, go try to find a job with your degree.

@hidingrighthere Thank you.

Friends? Family? Can you afford renting a room? My advice to young adults who still depend on their parents is to try to get along until you can get on your own feet. Unless it's some type of abuse most arguments can be avoided.

@QueenandCrown Thank you. Honestly it's been hard. It used to be abusive. They stopped the physical violence after I turned 18 because I threatened to call the police. Afterwards, we were fine, but arguments like this bring back emotional pain. I don't want to be impulsive though, so I'll talk to them tomorrow morning.

I don't have much in the way of good advice. Don't stop yourself from doing something because it looks silly/seems ridiculous.

@FCNantes Thank you.

Yeah it would probably be a good idea

Look for a room to rent near the university.

Why don't you have money? You're 23, Find a job and get an apartment.
Maybe your parents will let you back in a few days.
yokainohoshi · 26-30, F
@rosyhills The money I had saved was spent on medical insurance, surgery because of an infection, and car repairs. My parents didn't charge me for rent, but they never helped with anything else. I plan on talking with them tomorrow.

@Darksideinthenight2 how is it far fetched? They could have graduated HS at 16...

Nowadays, you can get an associate's degree in highschool.

So you can end up with a bachelor's at 20, masters at 22, and working on a PhD at 23 like the Original Poster.

Just because you didn't achieve something, doesn't mean it can't be done .💁‍♀️

@rosyhills PhD programs usually require extensive work experience.
yokainohoshi · 26-30, F
@rosyhills Thank you for defending me. I did research alongside studying for my bachelor's. I got accepted directly into PhD so I'll be getting my masters as I work on a PhD.
