Do you think I'm escaping realty?

Recently I've been spending most of my time either reading/listening to novels and getting lost in day dreaming. Just a few days ago I read a Chinese web novel for about 12 hours straight! I'm actually spending hours day dreaming too which is not new to me. I tend to day dream a lot and spend a lot of time in my imagination. I'm starting to think I'm escaping reality. I also drink alcohol time to time which could be another form of escaping. If you check my profile you will see that I made a few posts about my drinking problems and general sadness.

Yes. But in your escape, you save your sanity.
@4meAndyou Maybe that's a portion of the truth? I like to think there's a reason why I'm escaping reality other than the fact my life is crap. Perhaps I'm slowly losing my sanity :/

@Citrusflavour I have been reading a lot lately, too.

It's not a normal thing for me. For a while, after my divorce, I couldn't read a paragraph and understand it. I had to read everything 3 or 4 times. NOW I find I am flying through the books like I used to do...with full comprehension, and the pleasure is pretty intense after the deprivation.

I just took two books out of the library. One is a MASSIVE volume by Ursula Leguin.

Read and don't feel guilty or feel like you are going crazy. Read because you enjoy it.
@4meAndyou Thank you! I usually read light novels translated from Japan or China. I also enjoy listening to audiobooks on audible! I'm currently listening to Harry Potter, Lusam and His Dark Materials. There's another book I forgot the name of now that has both a female and male voice for the dialogue which I really like. I hope you enjoy those books you took out of the library :)

@Citrusflavour I am, so far. There is a user here on SW named Thevy, from Australia, who enjoys sci fi and fantasy novels, and I bought the last set he was reading, and shared them with my son. I buy my son a subscription to audible books each year for his birthday.

Right now I am reading a book from the Painted Man series by Peter V Brett, called "The Warded Man", which is about a young boy living on a remote farm with his family. Their only protection from demons which come out every single night, are painted "wards" or magical signs. It's very good so far.
@4meAndyou Oh I remember that book! I won't spoil it and it's definitely was a good read :) My Dad also a reader so I guess I got it from him maybe. There's a book I've been meaning to read and it's called The name of the Wind. I read the first few chapter but didn't really continue it but now you reminded me of The Warded man, I feel like re-opening it.

@Citrusflavour Everyone with whom I "speak" here on SW gives me new books to read. I'll try The Name of the Wind, too, I think...in about a month when I am done reading all the stuff I greedily withdrew from the library...😉

@Citrusflavour Thank you for best comment!
@4meAndyou Great! Is there any books you would recommend? I wouldn't mind reading something else! Also you are very much welcome for the best comment, it was a good talk and originally relatable regarding the sanity check definitely considering what we're all going through.

@Citrusflavour I am re-reading a very old one now. I haven't re-read Ursula Leguin in many years, so I checked the entire Earthsea Trilogy out of the library. It's one massive volume.

I have been thinking about some of my favorite old books lately...that I didn't keep. (No room). Author Anne McCaffrey and the Dragon Riders of Pern, for example. I loved those books. Marion Zimmer Bradley and the Darkover novels...many of them.

But, I think if I were recommending a series, besides the above, for a young man, I would recommend Jim Butcher's series called the Codex Alera.

He creates a world in which there are "furies", or special spirits with greater or lesser powers contained within everything, and there is one young boy who has no powers...or furies of his own. The world is modeled on ancient Rome, and the series is full of twists and turns and surprises. There are, I believe, 7 books in the series.
@4meAndyou Thank you, I will give it a read! Have a good day. I will be listening to audio books now :3
