I Could Live Without Cable Tv

Cable TV is just awful! Most of the content on those channels cater to a low intellect and air the lowest form of entertainment on television! Sitcoms, generic action shows, "reality TV" that is so repetitive and far from reality... You may think I'm just being a snob about this, but it's true! Cable TV is made to be simple and accessible for general audiences, this allows the networks to easily produce the dumbest, low-grade crap TV shows that people are going to watch anyway simply for how easy to follow it is. Sure, there are plenty of exceptions, shows that break the mold and are objectively good in quality, but the vast majority of cable TV... You get the idea: it's garbage.

I am currently living without cable. I stream YouTubeTV, Hulu, Netflix, and Prime. 🙂

I got rid of cable tv and now watch youtube and netflix.
That's very true. You have to watch National Geographic, Discovery, The History Channel, CNBC, MSNBC, PBS, C-SPAN, A&E or ESPN to get any quality, worthwhile thoughtful programming. And even then, the pickings are slim.

@quitwhendone History Channel has gone to complete shit. It has nothing to do with history anymore. Discovery isn't much better either.
@MethDozer You have to watch History Channel 2 if you want to see shows about real history and not pawn shops and junk dealers.

I got rid of cable tv 3 yrs ago. I now get over the air tv..it is free. I have internet and roku and netflix...amazon prime and roku channel. My monthly cost for tv is about $25. Big difference from the $180 I used to pay.

Old Time Tv shows!

Agreed. I’ve recently dumped my cable TV package in lieu of Hulu’s live TV offering. It’s just a fraction of the price and gives me enough channels that I can watch any live events or news when I feel like it. The extra/garbage programming and channels don’t bother me as much now that I’m not paying so much for it.

I’ve lived most of my life without cable TV, and have only a couple of channels added to the basic package, so I don’t see a lot of what they have on.

At work and in the RV we use a new smarter than me TV as long as internet is there we have tons of channels without internet probably a dozen of the older sitcoms
Melpomene · 26-30, F
Then why do you have it?
Carver · 31-35, F
@Melpomene I don't. 🙄
Melpomene · 26-30, F
@Carver So why does it bother you then?
Carver · 31-35, F
@Melpomene For the same reason poor quality music being is what's hot in the mainstream does: it's popular yet it's bad. It kinda reflects how dumb society is in general.
MrGomco · 36-40, M
I'm actually living without TV.
smileylovesgaming · 31-35, FVIP
I just get on Netflix or vudo
DDonde · 31-35, M
I stopped watching it. It's hard to watch now.

They are struggling against streaming. They are in the same position record labels are in with album sales. They are an archaic and obsolete dinosaur desperately trying to stay on life support.
