I Have Something to Say

Many years ago I was a devout christian. As such I studied the bible but, much to my surprise, found it was really just a badly put together collection of myths and superstitions taken from various older belief systems. I realized I'd been deceived so broke free from the chains of christianity.

I find reading the christian posts here very reassuring, they confirm I made the right decision.

You know I also went your same road as well.

Then one day I realized...

If I follow God out of the desire of heaven or fear of hell or not getting heaven... then really all I love is myself and my own self-preservation. Would I side with God if he wasn’t the greatest power, with influence, protection, blessings, promising strength, was potentially dangerous, or if I could get nothing from? Would we do this in our day to day lives? Be with a human we found displeasing and dangerous in every way? Most likely, no. So that shows us the proof that no one “loves” God but what they can get from him.

I reason that only if we weren’t told about God promising a heaven or a hell then we could see who genuinely did what they did. Once we are told of heaven and hell it ruins genuineness.

Free will:
I didn’t ask to exist or tell my parents to mate.
I didn’t pick or choose my brain, body, the world, what it contains, or the options I have to choose FROM.
We are forced to adapt to this life by proving ourselves pleasing, productive, and harmless to others OR we are negatively labeled, sent to be “fixed”, or locked up.
We are trying to survive and we seek pleasure, otherwise we would never complain, we attempt to avoid painful consequences.

We had no original choice in ANYTHING. So why are we labeled “sinners”? For not doing what a personality wants, just like humans do with us? Calling us all negative labels from A to Z when we don’t do what they WANT?

I am with you in your experience. I am glad I am not the only one that has had this epiphany of thought and realization.

Thank you for your post Susie1960!

@Specialyouare Very well put

There's not one shred of evidence anywhere that Jesus Christ ever existed.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@Entwistle There is definitely evidence. Maybe it's not incontrovertible our incredibly reliable evidence - but there is some.

@QuixoticSoul There is evidence of people called Jesus, I even know one, but none that any are the son of "god".
Entwistle · 56-60, M
There is evidence of course of people called Jesus, indeed there are many folk called Jesus alive today. However their is no valid evidence of the Jesus Christ mentioned in the bible ever existing.

It just shouldn't be taken literally.

@suzie1960 not the same because Harry Potter characters emerge from the imagination of someone, with the Bible you have real people that lived then, historical back up, so it's not comparable. Should be more objective.
suzie1960 · 61-69, F
@SW-User Much of the bible emerged from the imagination of various writers and much of the "history" is simply wrong. It's also full of contradictions. You obviously haven't read any more than a few, cherry picked, excerpts.

I'm grateful for your comments though, they help confirm I made the right decision when I broke free of christianity.

@suzie1960 There is very little if any secular history to back up the claims that many of the characters in the Bible actually existed.
