I Have Something to Say

Many years ago I was a devout christian. As such I studied the bible but, much to my surprise, found it was really just a badly put together collection of myths and superstitions taken from various older belief systems. I realized I'd been deceived so broke free from the chains of christianity.

I find reading the christian posts here very reassuring, they confirm I made the right decision.

It just shouldn't be taken literally.

@SW-User It shouldn't be taken at all. The bible is no more than a badly written work of fiction.

@suzie1960 not as that cause has historical back up. But again, shouldn't be taken literally, or get obsessed with it and be judgemental to others. Just as well as being judgmental towards religious people is as bad. To each their own.

@SW-User Most works of fiction refer to real events and places in part. The Harry Potter books mention London and King's Cross railway station. Both of those are real (you can easily check for yourself) so that proves Harry Potter is all factual.

@suzie1960 not the same because Harry Potter characters emerge from the imagination of someone, with the Bible you have real people that lived then, historical back up, so it's not comparable. Should be more objective.

@SW-User Much of the bible emerged from the imagination of various writers and much of the "history" is simply wrong. It's also full of contradictions. You obviously haven't read any more than a few, cherry picked, excerpts.

I'm grateful for your comments though, they help confirm I made the right decision when I broke free of christianity.

@suzie1960 There is very little if any secular history to back up the claims that many of the characters in the Bible actually existed.
