I Am Living With An Incurable Disease Or Illness

Over the past 18 months, I have developed significant motor neuron disease. The neurologists all believe that I have ALS, but none shared that diagnosis with me until 5 months ago.

Life is a journey... and the journey sometimes comes to an end before we are expecting it to end. It's all OK... life is difficult but I hope to finish well. I'm investing what I can into the lives of others right now. The greatest challenge for me is to not become trapped in the thoughts that I am doing certain activities in life for the very last time, because I will not be able to do them again as my muscles continue to weaken more each day. I'm here at SW because I need somewhere to share intellectually and emotionally and unwind at this season in life... :>)

Our thoughts are with you. My parents both died after very long illnesses. A friend of mine has MS, another, Alzheimer's, so I am well aware of the cruelty of these diseases.

My mother’s friend passed with that disease. Aka: Lou Gehrig’s disease. I help a client with Parkinson’s, another neuron disease. Wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. God doesn’t give you more than you can handle.
As a follower of Christ, you already know what awaits you. On the cross, He took what we deserve. May God give you comfort and peace, I’ll look forward to meeting you on the other side....

@1pebbles Yes... I definitely know where I'm going... and I'm looking forward to it. As odd as this might seem, this is really a great place to be in life because the Lord uses you in amazing ways daily and ministry is really exciting and energizing. When we are weak... He is strong! 😊

My wife was diagnosed with ALS August of 2015. She started showing signs the previous December. Her's started in her lower body, at first they thought it was osteoarthritis but when that didn't get better she went in for more tests. I'm sorry you have to go through this, I hope you have a lot of support to help you. We have found a few things that have made things easier for my wife that I am welcome to share if you wish.

@gmatthewb Yes, I'd like to talk more. I'll send you a PM.
How are you doing presently? Please give us an update.
@ms20182878 I do not comment on religious matters around here. I am unconventional. I meant in the terms of being a person who doesn't deserve such a malady or medical condition. I am sure you are rather naughty and lusty. And you are living still.
ms20182878 · 61-69, M
@PoetryNEmotion "Naughty and lusty"... yes... that's a good description of me... 😉
@ms20182878 I am pretty accurate in how I see people. Online or in the other world.
Do you have a definitive diagnosis? Are you being followed closely by a team of professionals? How are you handling this?
ms20182878 · 61-69, M
@PoetryNEmotion There is no test for ALS, so the diagnosis is made as the symptoms increase more and more. I have seen 4 neurologists and they are all in agreement. The medical community really doesn't have any significantly beneficial treatment to offer. I am doing two other treatments also. How am I handling this? Well... no one gets out of here alive... :>) I'm a follower of Jesus, so I know what my future holds. As I live out the end of my life, however long that might be, I want to live it out well and make the transition as easy and smooth as possible for my family.
@ms20182878 I am sorry for your condition. I wish you some good luck. And a treatment in the future. Light and love.
