I Hate Asking For Help

I'm Stubborn... How many have experienced the moment when you realize that no you can't do this and you need help? I have, but usually after the fact.  Example, I fell off a scaffold back in the 90s.  As a result, I wrenched my shoulder.  I also did damage to an ankle, but didn't know that at first, because the shoulder hurt too much.  Now, Silly me I went to work the next day which working at a theater involved standing all day on concrete.  By the end of my shift, the ankle was swollen and throbbing.  Also, since I owned the only car in the family at that time, I then drove to the other side of the city to pick my mom up from work.  She figured out quickly that something was wrong, because instead of pacing around as I usually would have, I was sitting down on the floor.  I simply said that my foot was bothering me.  Of course she says to go get it checked out in the morning at Urgent Care.  I do and 24 hours later, I'm medicated & better.  Now, do you see the stubborn me.  I really hate to ask for help.  I'd rather limp in pain and drive with a swollen right ankle then simply say I can't handle it.  Of course it is male ego as well.  Don't cry, ask for help, look sad, etc.  Stupid, but it is hard to undo 40+ years of breeding. Sad but true.
