I Believe Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder

I believe beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and I realize some men like rubenesque women but that is not me. I am petite and every pound shows. The truth is, I don't want men to have to lift folds of fat to find my hot spots. I want to be a hand full and nothing more. I am solid and curvy, but not from being fat.

So I work out religiously. I love the burn. I love to sweat. I probably lift more than I should at my age but I can, so I do. I can deadlift about 110lbs and might be able to do more. I use 45 lbs weight bars for my military presses and clean and presses and I can leg press about 200 lbs.

I have always worked out even while pregnant but something recently scared me and i upped my ante. I always go to my high school reunions. A lady was standing next to me that I knew and had grown up with. She was dead 2 months later from brain cancer.

I don't know about genetics because my mom passed at 46, my dad at 47 and my paternal grandparents at 48. I am trying to keep the odds in my favor.

I have given up exercising. It was interfering with my life goal to be fat, bald and old.

@jim44444 but you ride your bike...so i bet you are not...
jim44444 · 70-79, M
@akindheart I only ride downhill. 😂

That oft-quoted saying is absolutely correct. People find various things attractive. As another old saying goes, "different strokes for different folks".

Good for you for trying to keep fit. Most people stagnate and become victims of inertia - especially at a "certain" age. The weight-bearing exercises are just as important as those for cardiovascular fitness.

@sciguy18 nope...can't take the fat folds...I will work out until the day i die..

A very impressive set of accomplishments. You are quite right about the need for strength training for mature people, especially women. (One could also say, especially for men, although due to somewhat different emphases.)
Keep it up.
As they say in Kung Fu, When you stop pushing the rock up the hill, it rolls down over you.

@laotzu92 thank you so much for the kind words. I work out 4 hrs per week and will continue until the body gives up..

I was a weightlifter into my 20's. Thanks for giving me the incentive to go back.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@Heartlander for women it is a must. osteoporosis sets in and weight lifting helps bone mass!!
Heartlander · 80-89, M
Yes, besides the bone mass it's also muscle and tendon strength and health that eases the deterioration of the joints. You don't need bulky muscles to be strong. To refresh my memory I just checked olympic records in weightlifting. For a clean and jerk for 125-128 pound woman the record is like 300+ pounds. Amazing!

Much more than even this ...

I admire your desire to stay fit. I try to myself, but have been dealing with elbow and shoulder issues recently.
akindheart · 61-69, F
@AlienZipper I go pretty religiously except this week because of stress
AlienZipper · 61-69, M
@akindheart I can imagine that, yes
