I Hate Stupidity

In school, they stated that Communism and Socialism are related but not the same thing. We usually saw examples of communism (USSR, Vietnam, North Korea, Mao's China) but we were never shown examples of socialism, socialism with capitalism. This leaves you with an undertoned allusion that socialism always leads to communism, therefore, socialism is bad. I they should make it a point to hammer home that they are not the same thing and that socialism isn't inherently evil because it's relationship to communism. Especially in this country because many people see those words as equivalent, demonizing anything to do with socialism.

The problem like most things with humans is that in small groups, both ideas can work well. Its when we scale them up, and some people inevitably get more power than others and use it against them that things turn into crap real quick. That doesn't depend on which form of government you have it can happen with them all.

“Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.” - Winston Churchill

@Pherick It's easier for people to think in extreme dichotomies unfortunately.

Socialism goes against everything in the free market capitalism. The problem with socialism is human greed the only example of a form of socialism that works is in monastic community's such as monks and nuns where people choose a life of poverty

@dale74 Public roads? Roads that everyday people are driving on? Or roads that are just used internally by their plant employees?

@dale74 So what you're saying is that it doesn't matter if the street your house on is a dirt track, so long as the factory's got nice tarmac outside? That's practical as all hell...

@dale74 I didn't say it was "evil" but wouldn't say free market by itself is a great thing on it's own. Look at workers during the industrial revolution. That's a free market without government restrictions and definitely without socialist implementation And that's probably the closest thing to pure capitalism the world has ever had ('cause everything's more on a spectrum then just plain capitalist or socialist or communist). That standard of living was raised after socialism programs were implemented.

Those businesses didn't just decide to be nice one day and not fire and replace you when you got sick, pregnant or hurt in their unsafe work area that they hold no accountability for. They have restrictions and are held up to standards. Sure, some businesses are exceptions but economy and business, at it's core, truly have no moral obligation to anyone. Therefore, amoral. (Without morals) Greed thrives in that type of environment and often takes over without socialist programs in place to keep it in check.

Also there are dozens of social programs in America already that nobody realizes is socialism at work. Some not as fully functioning and thriving as they could be but everyone'd be a lot worse without them.

people use socialism daily... yet go on about how it's bad.
