Happiness is a choice, not a result. Nothing will make you happy until you choose to be happy. No person will make you happy unless you decide to be happy. Your happiness will not come to you. It can only come from you

I agree with you. So many times I have told people who suffer depression that if they were to have an attitudinal change then there would be a marked improvement in their outlook. Of course I get shot down most times. With comments like, "How would you know how I feel?" "So, if I just change my mind, all will be well?"
I was in that dark place for many years, having been abused by family members, alcoholism to block it out. So I know what it is to be unhappy, depressed. One day I decided to make an effort to see the good in the world, to make myself laugh. Or to put it better, To allow myself to laugh.
Doing nothing, nothing will change, making an effort at least gives happiness a chance
I’m working on a type of therapy where memories are stored in long term memories.Its exhausting.
Another is through a church where they work through issues and bring God into the equation. My friend did it with me and I had so much peace from it, but I think it was too much for her. It involved God and prayer and before that night I had dreams for years of he girls who bullied me in high school and he dreams were bad, but lately the dreams involve me and these girls getting along in my dreams. I was also molested so those dreams stopped as well.@Gusman

@MissMollyCharlotte0702 Then your making progress so would be wise to keep doing what you have been doing, When you are at your lowest, try writing, see what happens. If it's midnight and your thoughts are keeping you awake. Pick up a pen and see what happens. Try not to fight it. Important to throw it away, in my opinion. Do not want to put those thoughts back into your head.
I have done that and it didn’t work for me. @Gusman
Happiness is difficult when there is depression aka a black cloud hovering over me 24/7

@MissMollyCharlotte0702 I understand.

Adults have choices but everyone has to go through childhood first when there are no choices!

True? Except to some extent happiness is just a chemical reaction in the brain.

@Lostpoet Oh no... just when I was happy being drunk on being depressed (kidding) you come in! Pretty sure in time you see happiness as just a chemical reaction in the brain, and you start to understand those reactions of yours are once a choice, but equally brain chemistry.
