Hi there, I'm happily married and in my early 40s. So far the 40s are the best years of my life.
I've never felt more empowered, organised, confident and uninhibited. Fortunately, my husband still finds me attractive but then I work hard to keep in shape mentally and physically as does he. We have a wonderful bond.
But I have a dread of getting older. I don't like the thought of being 50 or 60. I hope that changes by the time I get there.
Has anyone else struggled with the thought of getting older? Please tell.
Neena · F
I used to. But not any more. I keep myself physically and mentally fit. I am growing in confidence with age. I'm glad that you are putting efforts to be in good shape. What I realized is that if we stop worrying about aging, we grow wiser. Life provides different challenges for all age groups. Do just enjoy every moment :)
SW-User
@Neena I guess that's my only real option.😀
Thankyou 😘
Neena · F
@SW-User Thats by far the best option :) . Continue taking care of your health. That's important. I'm in my late 50's and I continue to feel confident because I started taking care of my health and mind.

I'm 78 and loving it, I now look at 50/60 as being young...I go to the gym four times a week and I'm in pretty good shape...I actually don't dread anything, it's our 60th wedding anniversary next year and we have been planning our party..as long as you stay as fit as you can and stay happy together, then you have so much to look foreword to...
SW-User
@Platinum Thankyou for sharing. 😘

At 55, I went through a midlife crisis, so to speak, getting a full physical, realizing that I'm not 28 and bulletproof😔 but I'm 60 now and embracing the best years of my life. Beautiful wife and happy family. 💕🤗
Welcome to SW.😊🤗🌹☕️
SW-User
@Montanaman That is so wonderful to hear. Thankyou 😘😘

Oh and one more thing my parents seemed to be happy in their 50s and early 60s . Only recently my mother developed wrinkles which makes her feel bad . Hopefully she can get Botox soon . Her health hasn't been great which caused her problems because she's been diabetic since the age of 42. I'm trying to avoid that myself but I love food and it's hard .
SW-User
@SW-User Yes the dreaded wrinkles. My son refers to the lines on my eyes as Angel Wings....Bless him😂

One day at a time. You will grow old together.
SW-User
@SweetMae In other words don't over think it? I do tend to do that. Thankyou 😘
SweetMae · 70-79, F
@SW-User 😘 You are welcome.

Okay so you're probably gonna laugh at me because I'm just 22 but I feel the same way! Every year I dread getting older

Lol but what I realized is that life is very precious and also brief so each year we are here is a blessing. Some people never make it to experience old age and have their lives taken too quickly. I would cherish life and the age you are, never take it for granted.

Look at it positively, every year you grow, get wiser and have more to give to the world, have more to experience :)
SW-User
@JammieDodgerHeart That is so very sweet and so true. The funny thing is I would not wish to go through my 20s again at all. And I would never laugh at such a thoughtful and measured response. 😘
JammieDodgerHeart · 26-30, F
@SW-User Thank you! :) I think no matter how old I get, I'll still be a big kid at heart 🤣 that's all that matters, keeping being you and having fun
SW-User
@JammieDodgerHeart Just don't lose that in the Hurley Burley of life. 😘

Welcome
I’m new too. First congrats on a happy marriage- I’m sure you’ll stumble across the endless laments about unhappy ones so cheers to you both. As for aging-I’m in my 50s and although my optics are getting hard to maintain (hair, wasteline, etc...it’s s battle) you just have to go with it. Embrace it. There’s nothing wrong with acting your age. Nothing worse than acting like your still 20! There’s a coolness and sexiness to maturity if you do it right especially for woman! As trite as this sounds everyone loves an attractive smart mature woman! I know I do! Have a great day!
😊

Mutton dressed as a lamb, I gotta remember that! 😊
It’s a challenge for men if u actually care about what you wear. Dress to well and they give you sh@t. But I refuse to ever buy anything marked “loose fit”!!!!
SW-User
I have a rule in our house. If your clothes are getting tight, don't buy new clothes, lose weight. 😂
luctoretemergo · 61-69, M
Very smart!

By the time I was 50 I was looking forward to retirement and it has proved just as good and enjoyable as I had hoped. I have been lucky, so far, to have good health and enough money to make the most of it. Not everyone is so lucky, of course.
SW-User
@MartinII That is so wonderful. I love hearing positive stories!! 😘
SW-User
I don't really care for now and I'm in my 40s, everyone gets old . I haven't ever enjoyed my life . You seem to be happy and healthy with a good husband so you should not worry much .
SW-User
@SW-User That's very sad. I'm sure the good times will roll. I'm just enjoying what I have now and don't want it to diminish. 😘
SW-User
Well yes hopefully things will get better but for now don't enjoy my life . @SW-User

I turn 61 in Aug. I have never felt my age at all and have never dreaded getting older. Because if I keep having birthdays it means I am still alive...lol
SW-User
@PTCdresser57 Aah yes "Old age is a privilege denied to many". I get that. Thankyou for that reminder. 😘

Im 56... and yes, that is a recent photo in my profile pic. I donr have many aches and pains, but i do struggle with PB a little. Ive been workinf out consistantly for probably 15 years. I dont have the body i had when i was 25 (and probably a good thing since i am now so uninhibited) but i am confy with my image.
SW-User
@SW-User Thankyou Mr Lion. I don't set PBs. Just getting to the gym is achievement enough for me. 😁😘
SW-User
I hear you. I love the gym, but it doesnt love me at times..
mrmoose · 70-79, M
Yes, but as you grow, you will find new and more exciting things
Bagalamaga · 56-60, M
It really depends on your mindset. Being 50 or 60 can be just as fulfilling as being 25. Just don’t try to be 25 at 55 because that’s where the fear of aging is coming from. Whatever age you are,just embrace it
SW-User
@Bagalamaga Sage advice. Thankyou 😘
SW-User
Hello - welcome here - hope you enjoy it.

I'm 56 and had some real health issues lately - led to me having to give up work late last year. So I'm struggling with it
SW-User
@SW-User So sorry to hear.😥😘

Don't dread aging, it can be wonderful! I am sure your husband will continue to enjoy your company for another 40 years!
SW-User
@samueltyler2 40 years!! I can't imagine.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@SW-User why not? you need a little luck and a lot of love!
xixgun · M
Keeping fit and healthy is all you can do. There is very little one can do to stop time.
(Unless you have a blue box in your attic)
SW-User
@xixgun A Blue Box and a Red Room. Great idea!! 🙈😀
memyselfandyou · 46-50, M
i 100% identify with you. I am in my 40s and am in great shape... but I know it wont last forever and decrepitness is but a few years away.. terrifying
ha! very good question! I spent most of my 30's making babies with my wife and we are the proud mom and dad of 4 amazing boys! We did not sleep at all throughout our 30's and this continued in our 40's...I just turned 50 this year and I lost about 25lbs leading to the event and I feel the most alive ever! I love every minute of every day!!!! Something for you to look forward to! However...I do have friends that never had kids and they have turned 50 maybe about 50lbs heavier than when they were 30 and are looking towards retiring and death...not good!!!!!
SW-User
Certainly, we all struggle with the idea of getting old, to varying degrees. But it’s just part of life. I’m trying to learn to embrace it rather than fear it.
Northerner · 70-79, M
I have grown old gracefully it has never been a problem. It is far better than the alternative.
SW-User
@Northerner Very very true. 😘

You should be okay with getting older. Just stay active and be prepared for menopause it can be a bitch.
GJOFJ3 · 61-69, M
Stay busy and stay happy, at 61 I have not even started slowing down.
TheotherAndy · 41-45, M
Will be 40 in less than a year and no anxiety about it yet LOL
Joe5663 · 61-69, M
