One boy at my school called Alan Weeks (who I still see about the town now) was sent to the lower school headmaster, by a female teacher for eating an orange in her class. Alan knew he would be slippered for this crime and lost his bottle - instead of reporting to mr Peters he decided to leave school. He spent the next 7 days hiding in the local library (during the school hours so his parents thought he was going off to school each day). the staff there became suspicious and phoned the school. two teachers were dispatched to bring him in - it was only ten minute walk from our school. The resulting punishment was 7 spanks of the slipper at morning break followed by 7 spanks of the slipper at afternoon break. 14 being the number of registration marks that he had missed. Sadly although I was in the lower school head’s form and witness many slipperings and canings that he administered in front of our mixed-sex class – these two punishments were carried out at break time when you weren’t allowed in the building!
