I Got The Slipper At School

One of the many things I got the slipper for was riding my bike to the bike sheds. We were meant to dismount and walk with it but most of us didn't. Slipperings were very common and persistent offenders were caned. Needless to say, I was a member of that group.

Katie got a slippering for asking a teacher the time! A bit harsh I think but knowing her there was more to that than she told me lol

Some of the things pupils were punished for, were just ridiculous.

@MAJFF Of course they were. It gave them more opportunities to slipper us. Even now shools are in competition to see who can come up with the most ridiculous rule. One of the top contenders must be the school that introduced a one way system in the corridors. It made it impossible to get to one wing of the school.

@Sharon Walking on the wrong side of the corridor usually resulted in a clip around the ear from one or two of the teachers.

Yes I can remember having to bend over for the slipper for doing that more than once. I don't know why we did it as the bike shed wasn't far from the gate. Just teen disobedience I guess

A bizarrely trivial offence! Was there any ostensible justification for the rule, or was it just one of those arbitrary requirements that schools liked to impose?

@NataliaT Katie’s school were quite formal when it came to the cane. A prescribed time, name in the book and parents informed.

We had a similar rule at my school - you had to wheel your bike down the drive out of the school, not ride it. One morning the name of a boy in my class was read out in assembly to report to the headmaster. When he joined us late in the first period it was obvious that he'd been caned. It turned out that the headmaster had seen him riding his bicycle down the drive on his way home the previous afternoon - the window in the head's office overlooked the drive.
