I Got The Slipper At School

One of the many things I got the slipper for was riding my bike to the bike sheds. We were meant to dismount and walk with it but most of us didn't. Slipperings were very common and persistent offenders were caned. Needless to say, I was a member of that group.

We had a similar rule at my school - you had to wheel your bike down the drive out of the school, not ride it. One morning the name of a boy in my class was read out in assembly to report to the headmaster. When he joined us late in the first period it was obvious that he'd been caned. It turned out that the headmaster had seen him riding his bicycle down the drive on his way home the previous afternoon - the window in the head's office overlooked the drive.
