I was also an ex pat in Southern Africa, although in a different country. My school also used corporal punishment. Like at your school the cane was used rarely and only for serious offences. However other forms of corporal punishment were used much more frequently.

I mostly got the slipper at home and school but I got the cane for more serious matters. I was also caned or slippered by friends'parents. Other than at school, nearly all canings and slipperings were on my bare bottom.

The cane was used only for serious offences at my girls school in the UK as well. I got caned on the bottom twice and I can remember a chair in the head's office which was mainly used for girls to bend over!

Getting caned was normal at my school too. We knew the rules and what happened if you got caught. Every stroke was well deserved.

We got spanked with a hand, paddled, and whipped with a belt .. .. It was delivered with you bent over a desk and restrained pants and underware was lowered .. .. .. Three swats with the paddle was the start but you could get up to 5 .. .. the hand was used to make it last longer .. the Belt added if for not cooperating or serious things like drinking .. .. and yes it HURT !!
