I Got Caned At School

I attended a very old fashioned girls' school for the daughters of expats in sourthen Africa. I was caned five times in my six years at the school. Once each in second, third and fourth year and twice as a fifth-former. The cane was used only for the most serious offences (playing truant, serious insubordination). I got mine mainly for truancy and out of bounds. You got six strokes from the headmistress in her office, bending over a chair or her desk, skirt raised, through your knickers, and yes, it hurt a lot.

I was also an ex pat in Southern Africa, although in a different country. My school also used corporal punishment. Like at your school the cane was used rarely and only for serious offences. However other forms of corporal punishment were used much more frequently.

@isabelrider @JosieM: At my school (boys, England, late 50s and 60s) the cane was used for serious offences, like playing truant or smoking. But there was no other corporal punishment (with the usual exception of the gym). Strange, I think, that the school was willing to cane boys, from the age of 8, but not to spank or slipper them.
