WRITER'S WEEKLY CHALLENGE FOR JULY 4, 2019 - WEEK 24
Fungirl's Thoughts This Week Here we are in week 24 and the beginning of it falls on one of the most important US holidays for me. As an American that is part of a military family and as a woman that has loved a very special soldier since I was four years old, I have always recognized that freedom comes with a cost. It was built on the blood, sweat, and tears of patriotic men and women and their families. Many have paid the highest price for us to continue to live our lives and to be able to freely express ourselves openly. Additionally, this holiday is a celebration of life for me. Some of you know this, but if you don't, I was in an abusive relationship with a man for several years. When I was able to make my escape it wasn't an easy one and he didn't want to let me go. He tried to kill me and I still wear the scars of that attempt on my body still today. The anniversary of that act happens to fall on Independence Day and for many years I allowed one of my favorite and most cherished days of the year to be darkened by reliving the cruel memories of one sad day in my life. Then I realized that one cannot wallow in the depths of darkness forever and I realized I was very blessed to still be alive and I began to celebrate it like a second birthday. I will enjoy the normal American things- the cookouts, the fireworks, the family, and of course pool and lake/beach time but in addition I will enjoy my annual cupcake and a Diet Dr. Pepper as I reflect on how blessed I am to still be alive and living in America, the land of the free and the home of the brave. You will notice a theme in our words this week based on this realization and by a picture that was provided to me by @JesseInTX which I'll post in the comments because it contains mild nudity. Oh and before I forget, Happy Canada Day to our neighbors and Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans.
THE CHALLENGE Although we call this a "writer's challenge" we have seen many people participating with their photography, drawings and paintings, or with song lyrics or videos. If you haven't joined us but want to you are welcome to do so. Anyone that wants to write or comment is ALWAYS welcome.
These prompts are designed to jumpstart creativity while challenging you to write. I hope that they inspire you creatively, are fun for you, and get everyone interacting. Please post your response and/or links to your post in the comments below and show your fellow posters some love and support. All members of the Similar Worlds community are welcome to participate. Feel free to write as little or as much as you like, to get as creative as you wish by writing a story or poem, maybe a sketch, capture a picture, or find a song or lyrics that demonstrate or uses the following words. If you are a song writer you can even write a song. There are no limits on where your creativity can take you beyond your own imagination. I look forward to seeing what you create. I want to reiterate that any person is welcome to play and the only hard limit rule is that we want everyone to be positive and supportive of those that take the time to write in this challenge. This is about being inclusive of all members and genres so let's see what you can do with one or all of this week's prompts. Feel free to invite and/or challenge your friends to join us too. Additionally, for all of you that enjoy writing from a prompt daily, my friend posted a prompt that contains a writing strategy/prompt for each day of July. If you want to participate in this challenge, and I encourage everyone to to so, and to write as much as possible because it stimulates your mind please take a look. The daily prompts are in the link below. Feel free to link your posts in the comments and/or tag me in your posts. I would love to read your posts from either or both challenges. @ChampagneOnIce
Sometimes freedom comes at an incredible cost to a precious heart, body and soul. The amazing strength and courage it takes to break free of an abusive situation/relationship is almost incomprehensible. Rejoice and bask in the joy of today and the knowledge you are safe and loved. The inner scars never heal, nor the pain and anguish of all that suffering. Sending love and hugs your way dear friend. Happy Independence Day to you and all my American friends.🇺🇲
Beautiful words. I am so sorry for what you went through, and I’m so glad you got out and are still alive! I’ve been blessed with a pretty good life, and I know I’m lucky in many ways. I have friends who are survivors of abusive relationships. I have so much respect for their strength and courage, just as I do for you and for those who serve. It’s an Independence Day for you for a few reasons, and I’m glad you can celebrate again.
Thank you, too, for mentioning the daily prompts for this month! I’ve had fun so far, and I hope more people join along!
@Fungirlmmm Same here! I miss notifications sometimes then I’ll randomly find a comment someone made on one of my posts, and I feel badly that I didn’t reply!
@ChampagneOnIce Same here. I would NEVER ignore any comment (unless it is a troll and I don't interact with them) so when I realize I missed comments I feel bad.
The choices they made to stand in harms way. United in purpose to secure our independence that we might remain free. United they stood in the face of conflict. Some made it through the conflict, others were damaged. And some paid the ultimate price.
Enjoy and celebrate the freedom that we have because so many cbose the pathway of sacrifice.
As always I hope I don't miss anyone that asked and/or that is one of our creative souls here. I apologize if I miss you but everyone is cordially invited to join us in our creative fun. If you have asked to be included but I haven't tagged you or if you no longer want to be tagged please send me a message and I will add/remove you from the tags in future posts. Thanks y'all.
I never knew. I am so sorry the creep did this. I hope he got put away for a long time.
You are a wonderful person, so kind and thoughtful. I am so glad you are alive and are my friend.
I am taking Friday off, so have a 4 day weekend. Right now, I plan on doing nothing, more or less.
I am drinking orange soda on ice right now, and eating lemon meringue pie (I got a frozen one from the supermarket). So so far, so good! I have the AC on high and I am not wearing anything but slippers. Aghhh.
... and now I’ve read your post fully too - you really do have such amazing inner strength - you are an inspiration to us all - it is privilege to have spent just a little time being a friend - I feel I want to apologise on behalf of men in general - thankyou for sharing your story and setting these fun filled challenges each week - 😊😊😊 - July 4 will always be different for me now 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸@Fungirlmmm
Hi Fungirlmmm. I did not know your full back story. And I am so sorry to hear about what you went through. But it warms my heart that you have come through the other side and are able to celebrate life, liberty and happiness today and throughout the year. I will be posting something tomorrow and I hope to take advantage of the writing prompts also. Sincerely, your friend Renee
