Have you ever hated a book you read?

What was it?
SW-User
Sure, but I tend to stop reading it at that point if I can. I found My Antonia by Willa Cather to be boring, and I didn't finish reading it. I also couldn't get through The Double by Fyodor Dostoevsky or The Unconsoled by Kazuo Ishiguro, although I tried.
MethDozer · M
@SW-User oh. Quite a few crime and poltical scandel books I've read sorta fall into the catagory. But those were more reading waiting for it to get good than actually seeing how bad is it going to get. There's been a few of those that as a read them kept thinking " how can someone write something so boring about something that should be so interesting?".
SW-User
@MethDozer The Unconsoled is an interesting case because it is a book that is deliberately designed to be frustrating; it's written with the logic of a dream, in that the plot seems random and chaotic, goals and quests are interrupted constantly by new ones, and the main character doesn't seem to be getting anywhere. It reminds me of Kafka, but not as compelling. I just couldn't get past the thought that this book is one big practical joke and Ishiguro wrote it just to see if anyone would actually read it. 😒
MethDozer · M
@SW-User I bet money I'd love that.
Coppercoil · M
Yes.. the book *the day itsok wasn't ok*

turns out in the end, after all the jokes and laughs and smiles, we find out that itsok wasn't ok at all. That it was all an act, and she was hurting even when she seemed happy. 🥺

I wanted to reach through the pages and wipe her tears away, but I couldn't. Please don't read it unless you want to be heart broken.

However, I hear the sequel is good. I guess she met someone similar, someone who understood her, and after a wild drunk night, he sent her a funny dick pic as a joke, and that was the beginning of a wild adventure. I think they even made a movie based on it.
itsok · 31-35, F
@Coppercoil well. I feel seen.
Quran. I would never come near it ever again.
The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett was the worst thing I have ever read in my life. Seriously awful. The prose is bad the plot is stupid and it is like Follett just wanted to speak about his hard on for cathedrals
thomassa · M
mistborn by brandon sanderson. god this was so stupid. i really hated it and had to read all three parts.
Hmmmm...Job, the "Old Testament."
Strongtea · 22-25, M
Angels and Demons by Dan Brown.
Chickie · F
Yep, Heartbroken or something like that. I thought the book was stupid as hell.

It's about this woman who's says that she's a nerd and her problems with her physically disabled husband she finds some solice in talking to a fuck boy which I later found out she cheated on her husband with. When he went on about his sexescapes I couldn't stand how dumb and thirsty the women he slept with was especially the one that tried to impress him trying to get some dick.
itsok · 31-35, F
@Chickie ..geez 😣
Chickie · F
@itsok girl, that book was a mess
itsok · 31-35, F
@Chickie I can tell

Not one I've actually read. I have listened to several on audiobooks that, while I've enjoyed them that way I know I'd never been able to get through them in actual paper form.
itsok · 31-35, F
@MasterDvdC I’ve had to stop listening to audiobooks because they were so bad, a few times.
MasterDvdC · 61-69, M
@itsok I enjoy them, especially when driving

All the books my mom would make me read during summer breaks and have to write her book reports
yes. city of bones. i had heard so much about it, i think there were even groups on EP where i was first introduced to the series, i looked it up and them thick books were in volumes. i downloaded the first and oh my gawsh it was so....horrible. very poorly written. much like i write my sw posts in groups lmao. The story was so good, the writing was a shame. i just read a few chapters. Then i dropped it.
MasterDvdC · 61-69, M

Chickie · F
@Justafantasy Even though the book wasn't that good either, the book was slightly better than the garbage movie.

Anything by Truman Capote. But my lecturer loved him, so we were stuck.

@SW-User uhm. I’m considerate. I’d start scrubbing the dirt off the potato’s imperfect skin, before using a potato peeler in long smooth strokes to remove the skin.

ok, now I’m done.
