It definitely depends on the circumstances and context. Human sacrifice to appease a deity, no. But a situation where a person could save little old me or my 18 year old niece, but not both, I’d have to bite the bullet. I’ve lived my life, hers is just beginning.
In tutorial, we used the example of an airliner with 250 passengers on board, which was going to crash land, possibly causing the death of thousands of people. Should the government (military) shoot the airliner down, thus sacrificing the lives of 250, in order to save thousands? It’s a tough decision @TheunderdogofNY
@BalmyNites It's easy on paper to figure out and the math works. But to equate human life to simple math is disheartening to say the least. I can't imagine having to explain that to the families.
Obviously every option should be explored thrice before even considering deadly force on citizens to prevent even greater casualties.
@curiosi Perhaps but in this life he's the only judge we have. Those that believe in God or a higher power will be judged by their masters. Those in position to make decisions that will affect an entire populace will be judged by that very same populace.
So depending on the situation inaction is unacceptable.
