Yup, I am now officially barren.

Early this year I had a total hysterectomy.

Like I mentioned before, I had uterine fibroids. I had a whole lot of them. Way too many of them.

They were causing me a lot of pain, and some other issues, so I requested a hysterectomy to have them removed.

Along with the fibroids, my uterus, cervix, and fallopian tubes were removed as well.

Thankfully, I was able to keep both of my ovaries, and as a result, I have not had to experience early menopause.

Getting a hysterectomy was one of the best decisions that I've ever made in my life, and I wish that I had had the courage to request one years ago.
I am so happy for you! It sounds like it went well.

I'm sorry you weren't able to ask for one sooner. Doctors apparently have very strong opinions about women's reproductive organs.

I would like to have a similar procedure, where my uterus is removed so I can stop having periods and not be able to get pregnant, but considering I don't have any other reasons to have it removed, just having my fallopian tubes cut and burned seems like a safer procedure. I'm a bit worried about it not being done correctly and them growing back or something and getting pregnant.

@AmbivalentFriability I think that most doctors won't sign off on a hysterectomy that is being performed as a means of birth control. It's a procedure in which you have to undergo anesthesia, which makes it a very risky surgery.

Have you tried other forms of birth control?
glad you feel better

@smiler2012 Thanks! :) I don't feel like any less of a woman. I've never felt as if my reproductive organs were the only things that make me a woman.

That sucks, do you have any kids?
Bluemouse · 41-45, F
@WSEIII No. I am happily child-free.
