321 child hating wankers in the British parliament

I don't know why I should be surprised by the number of MPs who voted Not to extend the safety net provision of school meals for children during school holidays. The comments made by those on the tory benches were particularly revolting...and then after they voted to deny the poorest that safety net, because that is all it was, for the days the schools are closed, trooped off to their subsidised canteen to trough out, congratulating themselves and each other.

It's disgusting that people in a supposedly first world country have to rely on free school meals and charity food banks to survive.

The tories don't care about anyone other than themselves.

There are currently many local councils looking to work something out between local cafes and restaurants.
Child poverty action groups are mobilizing many charities to see if they can help.

But it shouldn't have to be like that.

Conservatives constantly 'tinker' with systems and put ever more 'conditions' before allowing folk to 'qualify' for anything those in need may actually be 'entitled' to.

All that after an 'independent' body recommended MP's should get an extra 3K a year just a few months ago !
Along with all the trillions borrowed for business.

That's just disgusting

Jackie, I cook for a living and I have volunteered in the past to help Council-run projects feeding kids during the holidays. I am politically neutral - I have no axe to grind - but I would suggest that you consider, at least, the PM's contention that this is the responsibility of Local Government (as it always has been) and that extra funds have been made available to Councils so that they can run their own projects. It's not quite as black-and-white as it may appear.

@ArtieKat I didn't say it wasn't the responsibility of the councils, but the councils have had their hands tied by year on year cuts to all services. The money that you mention is only a tiny amount in comparison to the cuts that have his the school meals service the councils can provide; just like the swinging cuts to care homes to safeguard the older people reliant on public care. It hasn't just happened because of the virus; the school I used to go to has struggled for yeears to provide a service to the poorest families (which I repeat, is meant as a safety net)

@smiler2012 It's a mystery why poor people vote for them.

I would pick several of those who voted it down and write to them telling them they are actually extremely mean and they will lose their seat at the next election.
#Toryscum is trending.
Why not get some of your friends to write to, say, Ian Duncan Smith, Headlining with Toryscum.
Remember, these scum claim every meal they have, they just received a 3000 pound payrise.
This will make it easy to write to them

Huge numbers of people writing to them may precipitate a reversal.
It is the only way to make a difference. Being active in issues that affect those doing it tough.

Many of those who voted for the tories are parents; they have children. A classical case of intentional self-harm?
jackieash · 26-30
[@helenS Maybe. Who knows? I know there are those out there who think that those who voted the way they did deserve to lie in their own mess. I'm not one if those because they way things are going, I and my family could be in that position at any time.
