Are women and men treated differently?

You ever wonder how you'd be treated if you were the opposite?
I posted this months ago about the way that women are treated in Mexico. Sad to say, things really haven't changed much down there since my parents were growing up.

Yes.
I guess people would appreciate me more and wouldn't make unsolicited comments about my looks.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Melpomene Oh yeah I think that true. Alot of dudes are more inclined to pester girls haha.
@NoahB That's because most men would automatically assume that a compliment was flirting or a come on. Girls learn very young that there are negative consequences for platonic praise.
Melpomene · 22-25, F
@NoahB A lot of dudes also see it as "haha" instead of "this guy's creepy/intimidating af, I better leave"
Definitely. Some aspects, harder. Some slightly easier.

@bijouxbroussard Honestly, I’m (very slightly) pleasantly surprised at OP’s (relative) lack of “Just Asking Questions” here.
TiffAching · 26-30, F
@bijouxbroussard Ever try the Nicole Cliffe method of car-buying? It took me about a month and depended on the dealer accepting an offer he probably shouldn’t have, but I had (eventual) luck with it.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@TiffAching But... but I am just asking questions here! Lol

I'd be down on the docks waiting for the fleet to come in!

I’d be taken a lot more seriously when I gave presentations, for one. Wouldn’t be expected to put up with nearly as many death threats, rape threats, and microaggressions, for another. Nor, I suspect, would the simple act of me describing things be viewed as aggressive.
@TiffAching je thing that REALLY surprised Me though was the women.

I sorta expected a little male traditional behaviour, but I DIDNT expect the WOMEN to be worse!
Go behind your back
Kick you wjen you're down!

It stunned me that my gender were so willing to be selfish and ruthless - all becuase they see other women as competition - which was instilled by a male predominated viewpoint.

When we are just people trying to move along in this world with out head above th3 water line 🤷‍♀️
TiffAching · 26-30, F
@OogieBoogie Yeah, internalized misogyny and/or wanting to be seen as "one of the good ones" is somethin'.
@TiffAching it still blows my mind!

It's bad enough that we're still trying to let go age old biased behaivours from last century.... But to see this is action!.... Internally I weep for these women... They will never see ANYONE as an equal. People are either a stepping stone, or to be vanquished.
They will reach 60 and wonder why they are so lonely.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
I don't treat them differently, but they seem to be treated differently on this site for some weird reason.
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@NoahB Not funny. You'll have to do better than that.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@HairbrushDiva Guess I'm not much of a joke writer then lol. So whats this whole equality thing though anyway? I get it from a broad perspective but are the ppl on SW saying something specifically?
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@NoahB People on here keep saying men should be this and women should be that. In real life, at least where I live, there's none of that. People do what they do because they are what they are, and it has nothing to do with gender.
Most of the time, I believe yes.
I think being treated equally (except by one's equals) is rare.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@hartfire i'd love to hear about anytimes you felt you were treated differently
@NoahB
1. As a child, the worst in inappropriate behaviour from my father.
(Can't risk causing offence by naming it.)
2. As a young woman, being followed and sexually harassed by strange men on the streets and in public transport every day travelling to and fro college or shopping. (I always dressed with total modesty.)
3. Rape
4. Violence and near murder from one boyfriend; I escaped.
5. Our head tutor declaring that all the females in our art class would never make it as sculptors because we would have kids and our priorities would chance, and so gallerists and buyers would not take punts on us.
6. Sexual harassment by bosses at workplaces, having to leave jobs because of it.
7. Finding it far easier to get jobs in teaching and aged care than in male dominated professions.
8. Nowadays, being treated with polite respect and men offering to carry my shopping or heavy items to the car for me.
9. On a daily basis throughout my life, men speaking to me about the fact of my being a woman - not seeing me as a person first, irrespective of my gender.

Most of the time, yeah, if not all the time. Kinda sucks that this gender diversity is serious as it shouldn't be.
Eternity · 26-30, M
Of course. each has its advantages and disadvantages.
NoahB · 26-30, M
@Eternity im trying to min max my life here
MURD3RM0NK3Y · 26-30, M

MURD3RM0NK3Y · 26-30, M
@NoahB Fa sho fa sho it be fun most of the time
NoahB · 26-30, M
@MURD3RM0NK3Y i think my favorite part is getting away with telling the most stupid jokes ever
SW-User
Of course it's not the same! (Most of the time at least)
When I look closely, no. All are treated as per what they reflect.
Ian123 · 61-69, M
I suppose it really depends who’s talking to you 😀
NoahB · 26-30, M
@DarlingSelah it seem obvious but i wanna see ppl put it to words!
SkullsandBeauty · 26-30, F
I'd get less attention.
