I'm very afraid there is a real wish and maybe even plan behind that statement. He has hinted at it a few times before. Expressing it explicitly after all the other crazy shit he has done is terrifying, regardless of what intentions he claims to have for saying it.

I find this more telling than any of his proclamations. In what universe does Trump pass up an opportunity to have a REAL win and his victory lap? Someone has got through to him that he is not heading for a win here. So he is talking about calling the contest off.

I've noticed this is what he does. He floats an idea, suggests its a joke, but then keeps mentioning it so it gains acceptance. He's probably just looking at what happens in China and Russia. Either that or he really does want to be a King rather than a President.
