British Valentines!

Sadly teachers can't do that for fear of disciplinary charges levelled at them. My partner is head of geography, I am a former exams manager and I personally know 15-20 current teachers, so I do know how these things work. Do not blame teachers, they are as much the victims of megalomaniac Heads and Academy boards of directors as the students

It's that sort of behaviour, whether purely voluntary or imposed from above, that causes problems.

In general, these new "academies" are the worst. A company, whose only interest is making a profit, is given a pile of money to "fix" a failing school. All they do is appoint an overpaid headteacher, sorry "Executive Director" or some such grandiose title, who immediately imposes ever more stupid, draconian rules. Despite the students all wearing the right colour socks, the school is still failing academically. Having milked the cash-cow to death, with the company backs out so another company can move in an repeat the process.

That's pretty much an accurate description, sadly.
I worked for a school where the lady head is reputed to have slept with an OFSTED inspector and became an Outstanding school almost overnight........

But I assure you it is NOT the vast, vast majority of teachers who are at fault in the education system

88 years old... saw him in "The Mule" 2 weeks ago... and he's still doing his thing. Of course his cowboyslinging days are over, but I do have loads of respect for the guy.
