What's the poorest you have ever been?

I'm so broke right now, that I think I can only afford to put $5.00 worth of gas in my car. Luckily my new job is 5 minutes away and I finally get paid this Friday.

I used to rent a place for $400/month. It was in desperate need of repair and updating. The owner would give me rent discounts for work such as painting or carpentry, and he’d provide the supplies. I didn’t know much about being a handyman at the time, but I was never in position to pass on the discount. I must have put $20,000 of equity into that place.

@FloridaGuy wow.. you must have learned a lot as far as how to do projects around the house goes. That's good.
FloridaGuy · 46-50, M
I eventually did after learning how to hide a lot of bad work. @Eir089

@FloridaGuy $20K Wow, that is amazing...
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
Severely rationing food and having to decide which bills to pay to prevent shit from being cut off.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@CountScrofula It gets to the point where you're deciding which necessity is more important...
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
@SubstantialKick Yeah it's awful. You're one check engine light from losing your home. Glad you've got a new job and some pay coming in though!!
Eating peanut butter and jelly and ramen noodles nearly everyday for breakfast and lunch, respectively. My college days were pretty tough.
@latinbutterfly Relatable.
@Stereoguy @bijouxbroussard Looking back, it made me grateful for what I did have, which was my parents to help me out.

When I was 19 , I "ran away" from my mother, who was smothering me to death while bribing and manipulating me at the same time. I moved in to an apartment in Boston with 4 roommates, and they let me live there for free for a while. I had no money and no food, and they shared their food with me. I remember my roommate Mack had a box of Macaroni and Cheese his grandmother gave him, and he shared it with me. It was sooo good. 😂 I smoked cigarettes at the time, and you can imagine what it was like not to be able to afford those.

@4meAndyou That is an amazing story...

In debt and out of a job. Luckily, that didn't last too long.

I’m kinda in the transition period of being financially independent so it’s hard to say. I still live with my parents rent free. I have to maintain a 1.5k minimum bank balance so I’ve never been close to broke

To the point where my mother couldn't even afford baby formula for my brother or food.

@SW-User Wow...
Hi Dan! ol' buddy pal of mine. Can ya spare me five till next Tuesday? Thanks ever so much you're an angel and someone a friend can depend on. 😀
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
I grew up poor, and now as an adult I am always broke. Once bills hit its like oh yay, I have $3.00 to my name but at least I have rent paid. It sucks, but I manage somehow. 😅
raysam363 · 31-35, F
I am scraping together every penny and asking for some extra just to make sure my vehicle won't break down on the interstate. I don't get paid until friday.
SW-User
Well I've been without a home and without a way to pay for food before. That's probably the poorest I ever was.
SW-User
I'm sorry. I've never been that broke.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@SW-User I haven't either. I'm probably at one of the lowest points of my life right now 😂.

College. Everything I earned or received went towards tuition or into the “pot” for book money. I had some meals during the week but on weekends there was cereal and ramen. I learned to prepare some amazing meals that incorporated ramen. 😄
Eir089 · F
@bijouxbroussard Ramen noodles can be so good when you enhance it with a healthy broth and veggies ☺️
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@bijouxbroussard In late July 2012, I was staying in off campus housing of my school at the time, and had to survive a week on just ramen noodles and water until my mom came to help me out.
