Do you think siblings bedrooms should be seperated by gender?

I actually forgot that was a thing people did until my last post lol. I share a room with six siblings (three of them are boys, the oldest being 15) and different genders have never caused an issue for us. I've shared a room with my oldest brother since I was around 5 and he was 2馃槀

It wasn't THAT long ago that the whole family lived in one room. I think it's EASIER in some ways if sisters share a room and brothers do. But, like I said, it's a fairly new "norm."

@Mamapolo2016 I definitely find it easier to share with my brothers than my sisters, but that's more of a personality clash lol

I feel as though space and privacy are important for teenagers, but maybe if they鈥檝e never had that their whole life they won鈥檛 care.
Reject26-30, M
@AmmieBell Right. Those aren鈥檛 that bad. Lol. Just please be sure to say something though if you do get uncomfortable for any reason. I鈥檝e seen too many families with siblings touching each other against consent and not saying anything to their parents because they鈥檙e too afraid and don鈥檛 really understand what鈥檚 going on.
AmmieBell18-21, F
@Reject it wouldn't come up among us lol. My parents have always been really clear about boundaries and things like that. I've seen my six year old sister tell on my oldest brother because he tapped her shoulder to get her attention and she hadn't said he could touch her馃槀

@AmmieBell Good parenting! That鈥檚 reassuring to hear. A lot of people just prefer to be safe than sorry with kids, that鈥檚 why someone might say siblings shouldn鈥檛 share bedrooms, but it sounds like we won鈥檛 have to worry about your family. So in your case, I鈥檇 say it鈥檚 fine.

One would hope it wouldn't be an issue. However, I think I've hit the point of nothing surprising me anymore.

by law children over 5 aren't supposed to share room with a sibling of the opposite gender. i know this because my parents had CPS called on them when i was a kid and at the time all 4 kids shared one room. but really i don't see how its that big of a deal.
QuixoticSoul41-45, M
@OliverMichaels I don't think that this is a law anywhere in the US lmao - literally criminalizing poverty.
foggymorning3136-40, F
@QuixoticSoul i don't know but because of this my parents had to put up a temporary wall in the living room and create me and my sister a room. and i also know from living in hud housing if you have 2 kids of opposite genders they will only give you a 3 bedroom not 2 like if you're kids are the same
foggymorning3136-40, F
@QuixoticSoul but i think it only become an issue if like in our case some asshole calls CPS on you
QuixoticSoul41-45, M
That's a first world problem if I've ever heard one.
AmmieBell18-21, F
@QuixoticSoul not particularly a problem, just a matter of opinion. If you don't have more than one or two rooms, it wouldn't even come up. You know when you have kids that they'll have to share at that point, no matter where you live or what gender they are.

I鈥檒l never make enough money to have a house with 84 rooms
McGeeisme61-69, M
Up until I was something like 4 I had to share a room with 3 brothers then I had to share a room with one sister. Got my own room at age 8. All of my older siblings, moved out and on their own except the one sister who also finally had her own room at age 11 hated on me because I got my own room. Being the baby means you can't win for losing.
Thevy2941-45, M
I've only got brothers.

But the house I grew up had been built by three families. The three sets of parents had a bedroom for themselves but all their kids got put into the one room.
AndrewtooM
One big happy family, nothing wrong with that :)
AmmieBell18-21, F
@Andrewtoo sometimes happy 馃槀 closed quarters also means a lot of chances to argue
AmmieBell18-21, F
@DreamyCrush how come? Not to argue, just because most people were saying no so I'm just wondering the reason behind it lol. The only problem i could see is the off chance of some weird sexual attraction, but the same could be true for siblings of the same gender
DreamyCrushF
@AmmieBell Both you and @Reject make valid points as a relates to privacy and the possibility of a sexual attraction. Things look a lot different when puberty hits.
MartinTheFirst22-25, M
Well incest does happen
AmmieBell18-21, F
@MartinTheFirst I sort of gey what hes saying. Incest isn't directly related to siblings sharing a room, even though it can happen if they do share a room. The same could he said for siblings murdering eachother. Just because it can happen when they share a room doesn't mean it's BECAUSE they share a room was my takeaway lol
MartinTheFirst22-25, M
@AmmieBell if u see your sibling naked/in underwear theres a larger chance of incest, not murder.
AmmieBell18-21, F
@MartinTheFirst there's a chance of incest if you DON'T see your sibling naked too lol. It may be greater if you see them naked, but the odds of murdering someone are also greater if you're frequently around them. You don't particularly have to agree lol, I'm just saying I understand what he's saying and it makes sense to me.
