I Am For Gun Control

I’m Gen Z (i.e. the generation that’s being killed in school) and I have a couple opinions about gun control/school shootings. I really don’t want to hear anybody tell me that my generation doesn’t know shit because a couple people ate tide pods as a meme. We’re young adults and we are the future.

The whole March For Our Lives movement is kind of pissing me off. Remember when Black Lives Matter did the same thing and got hauled off to jail? It’s ridiculous that people are trying to claim activism when it’s only white people they care about. The only time the media listens is when there is a white translator.
I believe Gun control is needed in ALL forms. Not just for everyday citizens, police officers need it too bc yanno they’re still murdering unarmed black men.

Another thing, I don’t understand why people are acting like school shootings are caused by bullying. If that were true, we would see many more poc shooters, female shooters, lgbt+ shooters. You know, the people actually getting bullied in school. But, we don’t. The majority of mass shooters are straight white men. Of course, there have been some instances where a minority has committed a mass shooting, but it’s less than 10% of the time. It isn’t a matter of bullying, it’s more a matter of the privilege and entitlement white men have. Straight white men are by far the most privileged and entitled group of people. I believe mental illness can play a factor but it is not something to blame mass shootings on.

Privilege doesn't make them a shooter, it's the demonizing of men, which is bullying. I doubt you've ever felt the same as they do, not being them and all, I went through that field of rage in school and it's not about entitlement anymore than those that demand their healthcare and free tuition.
@basicallyugly Somehow I doubt he's going to cite a source.

@BetweenKittensandRiots If people were being kept down then how come others get out of it? I can't believe privilege exists if you can escape or fall out of it.

In their 2016 edited book Gun Violence and Mental Illness, psychiatrists Liza Gold and Robert Simon summarize the evidence debunking the myth that mental illness is a leading cause of gun violence. As they report, less than 5% of shootings are committed by people with a diagnosable mental illness. Like mentally healthy offenders, the mentally ill are far more likely to shoot people they know rather than strangers. The mentally ill are also far more likely to be victims of gun violence rather than perpetrators. These data suggest that the link between mental illness and mass shooting exists in our minds, not in reality.
The statistics are about gun violence not school shootings. They are misleading. They don't take account of cases that weren't diagnosed until the consequences took place. It's an attempt to move focus from flaws in healthcare. More and more people are being heavily medicated without a proper diagnosis in the US and Canada. You have to settle for that to have access to better treatment ways after waiting for months. So either medications that have aggression as a side effect, or neglecting your state.
White people are privileged in the sense that they have never suffered from systematic oppression.
I think my main concern with white privilege is that it's popularly being used as a club, not as a light. Much like how the Religious justifies their positions with "love the sinner, hate the sin" when clearly that's not what they are doing, in many quarters, the use of the privilege / intersectionality argument is actually being used to blame white people -and- encourage a "victim mentality" in non-white people above and beyond the actual inequalities they already experience. How does one know that those men benefited of any sort of privileges? Is it quantifiable? It's not like mental illnesses where you can go through each case and study it. And I am not so sure that every white person, including the poor and the powerless, have access to things I don't.

your also the generation that eats tide pods and snorts condoms, because CHALLANGE!, if your the future then there is no future.. lol

females tend to commit suicide not act out like male and same for LGBT people. And yes the main number of mass shooters are white males but black male make up 55% of violent crime. white pple just do it in a more educational setting. If we are talking entitlement then we need to talk about race based school programs and racial job hiring and lower conditions for school for black kids. and not even to mention all the programs we have in our society that are minority based that whites don't have access to. You have to be mental to go shoot a bunch of innocent people. You play this as if its cause of there race and that not only bigoted but also racist. That is the worst part of your question.

The police are not murdering unarmed black men. Your generation isn't being killed in school shootings. Ever hear of columbine? The fact that you say "Straight White Men"just shows your indoctrination. Half of all gun deaths are via suicide. How do you know the sexuality or gender identity of shooters?
@SuicideBiProxy2 heterosexual melanin-deficient males.

@basicallyugly Unless they are a black guy shooting cops with a sniper rifle or a Persian woman shooting up Google.

I was going to type out a long response to this, but then i realized I only have to ask one question to know whether you are even going to be willing to hear what I have to say: What is your opinion of Antifa? I know it seems irrelevant and I'm not trying to condicende to you, but please at least humor me before writing me off as some sort of enemy.
@AnInfamousDerka I have mixed feelings on it. Half of me feels like we shouldn’t fight with violence but I also feel that some people deserve to get beaten up.
So, you think Gen Z is the generation being killed in schools. Who is doing the shooting? Your Gen Z peers.

It is the shooter who is to blame.

There does seem to be an increase in the frequency of school shootings since Columbine. Why wasn't it such an issue before that?

@MethDozer ummm Greece 1946? The communist purges in the U.S.? The U.S. forcing Latin American countries to purge communists? U.S. led dictatorships to kill commies? Korea? Vietnam? Yugoslavia?
MethDozer · M
@SW-User And lets look. South America is doing better were communism has stalled and doing horrible in places where it's tentacles flourished.
South Korea is vastly more advanced and freer than the North. Vietnam has done pretty well for a SE Asian country.

Just because we have done some misguided actions doesn't slight the capitalism economic model nor is it evidence of any virtues under the marxist model.

I liked the film World War Z.

Under your logic school shootings would have been at an all time high back in the early to mid 1900's yet HS students nutting up and going on a pew-pew spree is a fairly recent development that has peaked with your generation.

Oddly enough, the less we committed nutjobs to wards, the more we sent them out on the streets with more poorly understood chemicals base on an unproven and low evidence health model, the more we see mentals going on violence sprees........

Hhhmmmmm............

@xSharp Immigrant privilege.
