There have been serious attempts to track down what if anything unusual or unique does exist in the very deep, dark, cold water; but they found no evidence for any.
It would anyway have to be "monsters" - a colony of them.

I think it is a myth or legend. It MAY HAVE existed at some point in history, but I think it vanished into extinction while the stories and "sightings" continue on. I keep an open mind, but have very serious doubt and skepticism.
