I Think Politics Is Becoming Too Extreme

The Democrat primaries are coming up. An older Democrat strategist appeared on MSNBC yesterday, and said he is terrified for the future of the Democrat Party because he says they have no message.

He said that every time it looked as though they might have a message, some nut comes out and scares everyone by suggesting crazy things like criminals voting from jail. He said that whenever a political party caters to the extreme fringes of their party, they will lose.

IMO, there are a lot of very young people and first time voters who are not aware of a very basic fact. Some politicians consistently LIE to get elected. They will look you right in the face and LIE. They will promise you the moon...anything you want...they will tell you that you can have it if only...if only you will just VOTE for them to put them in office.

That is why it is so important to ask for details. For example, what will this program cost? Can our country afford to pay that much? Will my taxes go up? How much? Will other government programs have to be cut to pay for this program? Which ones? How much will they be cut? What will be the effect on the people who benefit from that program?

I love my country, and I love the kids who are coming up now, and who will eventually run the country. I can't imagine anything worse for them than having to work hard ALL the time and live in poverty because of huge taxes to pay for big government programs. And worse than that would be not having any job at all because our businesses flee the country due to huge taxes.

Because our politics have become SO extreme, I would just like to ask our kids to PLEASE ask these questions BEFORE you vote. Don't vote for someone who is lying to you.

Didn't you support Donald Trump in certain posts? 😅

@Kwek00 I'm an independent voter, who voted for Obama in the last election. But thank you for asking.

@4meAndyou Obama in the last election??? I'm not sure, but haven't you missed 4 years then?

An independent voter can still support the current president. They aren't mutually exclusive. But I can be wrong, that's why I put the questionmark there.

@Kwek00 Yes, I skipped 4 years...😂I'm a little groggy. I've been up all night. I voted for Obama, and I was sorry. I saw the boarded up businesses and the people out of work. I experienced first hand the paucity of jobs that were available. If you didn't already HAVE a job back then, you couldn't GET a job, and most companies only "hired" or promoted from within.

Michigan, where I lived during that time, was a nightmare. To be fair, GM and their bailout under Clinton and then going out of business were probably the cause...but that state couldn't recover.

But I didn't post this to promote one party or another. I'm an independent because BOTH parties have been major a-holes at one time or another, and I want a choice NOT to have to vote for someone based on party alone. I guess I just want them ALL to stop being such power grubbing a-holes and think about our kids and their future. Not that they will.

And if they won't think about our kids and the lives they will lead because of their policies, I would love to see our kids ask a LOT of questions before they make up their OWN minds. And I would like to see our kids be at least a little bit suspicious of what they are being told, and research it themselves.

@4meAndyou No worries, it must be late over there.

I would have just found it strange if you answered "yes" to my question... because Donald is pretty extreme. But I guess I have mistaken your profile picture for someone elses', my appologies.

Well, I would love to have people ask questions and make up their own mind and do research and stuff... I honestly think that is also happening today. However, a this still leads to a lot of pluralism.

I think it would also be better if schools at least thought people how to research things. 😅

@Kwek00 Now THAT would be a miracle, wouldn't it.

@4meAndyou My personal opinion is that a lot of western education is primairly there to get people into finding a job. And that being a citizen is kinda snowed over a lot.

You still get history, geography, ... you know, common knowledge that people consider important to at least function a little bit in society. But all these courses are ussually just a few hours and get trampled over by courses that prime you for the working place. Critical thought, logic and how your governement functions, doesn't have enough weight in the entire curriculum, they are just things that are done at the side. This is something that I personally think, is a fallacy in our educational system.

Now don't get me wrong... I'm not advocating for ideological prepping here. But learning basic stuff on how to recognise sources, how to form an opinion and even "how to have a discussion" are things that I just don't see a lot in regular schooling systems.

@Kwek00 😢I see the same thing. I wonder why the teachers and the school boards don't?
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@4meAndyou Well, it costs time and money, and it takes away time from other courses.
4meAndyou · F
@Kwek00 I know...it's always money, isn't it...and we really need to have these kids in school day and night to learn the huge amount of information we really need to teach them...but..not gonna happen in the real world.
Kwek00 · 41-45, M
@4meAndyou I didn't say that 😅 but it's a choice we all make. And I'm not sayin that we need to teach them a huge amount of information. But I think that a course in how you deal with information is important, specially in a ge where so much information is availble.
