Why is it racist to ask people to have id to vote?

Not trying to cause a fuss or anything but I feel like I must be missing something as a lot of the reasons people are saying could be describing anyone's circumstances...

It's always been required to show ID to be 'marked off' the electoral roll as having attended to vote here in Australia. Note that voting here in most elections is considered compulsory, but it's not.

What is compulsory is showing up to be marked off as having attended a polling place with the intention of voting. There's no legal requirement to actually cast a valid vote.
