Why do you think some people would rather "believe" a lie...

The truth. We live in a world where truth has transience, not because of lies, but because we get more knowledge through scientific and other discoveries.

The more change that occurs, the less credence we give truth.

So, if someone comes along with a story that seems attractive and we are fearful we might grab that "truth" because it feels safe. And, eventually, the person can mistruth by mistruth lead us into a false world that we believe in where truth has lost all of its meaning.

Cuz in our world it's so hard to know what is "truth" and what is a "lie."

Plus we've been told we can believe anything we want in spite of the facts
