What is masculinity to you?

Is there a basic, standard definition of masculinity? In this day an age do you think that masculine representation is important?
'course it is! Ya can't just decide that the innate characteristics of half the population are no longer required. This shit is why depression & suicide has increased.
@bijouxbroussard Well, it's wisdom we're after isn't it? & you can only get that with age.
@SevenTierCrazyCake Another point on which we actually agree.
@bijouxbroussard overlap & variation 😂

I am not sure I have a good definition, but it certainly is not what these soy boy, pajama wearing, man bun never worked a day in their life types have.

If you have ever used electrical tape or super glue to bind a wound, gone home so wiped out that you didn't eat and slept in your clothes or finished a job without whining it might be close to a definition.
@goliathtree I like this. 🙂

Masculinity is no longer "politically correct" and has been psych evaluated as toxic by the mouth-dribbling psychology majors and by those who don't wish to live in the real world or who wish to change reality.

Masculinity is defined by the man, and/or by the person who loves him for his qualities. Some of them are more, some of them are less, and some of them just ARE.

There is an international effort to kill toxic masculinity. At the same time, this world is showing everyone that they can be strong. Be a hero.

I never needed this. My dad and mom (and many of my friends) discouraged the toxicity. “Boys will be boys” shit. They made us be responsible for our actions.

Do I still make mistakes? Sure Even my son points it out.

Do it think it’s ok that might not be a “man’s world” anymore... yeah. I would rather be a king with a tiger-wife than a lamb.
I just watched the Lion King so Mufasa is classic masculinity & Scar is the inverted aspects of masculinity.

There is a global attempt and trend to kill masculinity all together. People are question if genre M should still exists. 🤦‍♂️ Where are we going with this?
Masculinity is hormones, sex, genre, body-type AND behaviors that comes with it.
I'm aware there is toxic masculinity out there. But it's a tiny fraction!
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@eMortal i agree that there is a global attempt to downplay or deamonize masculinity but I don't agree that toxic masculinity has been promoted by a tiny fraction of people. Toxic masculinity has been upheld by both sexes forever and has been very pervasive.
@eMortal What aspects are we trying to "kill" other than a propensity for sexual assault ? Or is that masculinity ? I never thought it was.
@REMsleep What "global" attempt is this, with all the countries where men still run things ?
Tastyfrzz · 61-69, M
There is a difference between maturity and masculinity. Being nature basically entails holding your nose and doing what needs to be done. You don't need to be a misogynist to be an adult.
@REMsleep It shouldn’t. But historically it often has.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@Tastyfrzz True but every single society has roles for everyone. Without some order there is chaos.
@REMsleep The only thing about rigid roles is that they stifle the creativity of human beings, who are much more versatile than that. Sometimes society is mistaken.
In this day an age do you think that masculine representation is important?
Yes super important and I think there are very few good role models sadly.

@dondon I will watch it later but I agree that we are in dire need of real true positive masculinity.
DragonSlayerr · 26-30, F
Honestly it means nothing to me 🤷🏼‍♀️ There is no standard of what is masculine or what is not
DragonSlayerr · 26-30, F
@REMsleep I am a straight female yes. I don’t think I really have any “manly standards” when it comes to the guys I like. Other than the fact that they are male lol. I find a range of different guys attractive. It would take to long for me describe so I’ll give you examples. Jason Momoa? Hawt. Yuzuru Hanyu? Hawt. Both look completely different but both are men I am attracted to. There is no such thing as “too feminine”. Like what does that even mean??? Children should learn what they are comfortable with. If a child needs examples of “masculinity” and “femininity” in order to understand. Then they will ask for it.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@DragonSlayerr Wow you honestly think that children "ask for examples that they need". They most certainly do not. They don't know enough to ask for what they need. Its mostly up to the parents.
DragonSlayerr · 26-30, F
@REMsleep i study children/childhood and they’re actually a lot smarter than you think. I mean if you have kids and spend time with them that’s different. But that isn’t enough to make such a statement. I’m not saying that parents don’t have an affect on kids or that kids aren’t shaped by their habitus. But there’s more to it than that. Kids know more than you think they know. They just don’t tell you.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@ABCDEF7 I disagree especially in the sense of stereotypical femininity. There is nothing wrong with being a 100% feminine person. But, are you equating strength, hardness, leadership only with the masculine form? So many do. Im not sure if I am in agreement or disagreement with labeling characteristics that way.
ABCDEF7 · M
@REMsleep Do not make females stereotyped with feminity. What I shared stands true for males as well as females. Without feminity a man can not be a complete human. Similarly a woman need to have strength and be hard at times in her life.

Their body parts are different from womans (yes really lol) With all the gender neutral stuff its more difficult to define now.
Peaches · F
Men that are strong enough to admit when they are wrong and can apologize.💓
Bushmanoz · 56-60, M
My views are old fashioned. Try to be selfless. Step in for the little guy or who ever needs a hand no matter what the cost to yourself. That's just the job
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
I think it's a bit of a siding scale 🤔
Pherick · 41-45, M
Nope. Standards have changed through every era and location on earth. Check back in 100 years and I am sure they will be different where you are now. Check back in 1000 and they might be vastly different.

Nothing human ever stays the same.

Masculinity is the soul / spirit or in other words Life that resides within body which is feminine. Hence all living creatures are both masculine and feminine..

unfortunately it has nothing to do with male but was misconstrued as male.

@Anonymartyr Sad if true. Do not agree
@REMsleep I live in a 1-bedroom and being crippled cannot afford to rent alone. Before I lose my subsidies making rent possible on a disability pension unless I find a room mate...oh sorry no such thing as room mates anymore, She, He or It would be placed on my check as a dependent and they would be my common-law spouse. In effect, I am not allowed to be heterosexual.
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@Anonymartyr Not sure I am following
Honestly, strength and courage, responsibility is part of what I see as masculinity. But it's not limited to masculinity, women can also possess those qualities.
