Why is Europe a continent?

Allelse · 36-40, M
Too many bloody types of people for it to be a country, though folk have tried to to make it one in the past.

@Allelse I never really thought of that :v
The underground pools and stuff

I gotta look into it
Allelse · 36-40, M
@SW-User Its all very interesting but I've forgotten a good deal of it.
SW-User
@Allelse welp, thankfully I go to classes for this :v
Wish me luck

Because "continent" just means "large landmass" even if that landmass is joined to another landmass. Europe is a cultural/historical unit.
SW-User
@SW-User Well that's what I mean. It's considered separate from Asia more due to history and culture than due to geography.

It's also of course because the people who first labeled the continents were from Europe. If the continents had been an Asian tradition, they may not have given Europe continent status.
SW-User
@SW-User riding your train of thought, why would Europe even want continent status? ._.
SW-User
@SW-User I don't know, the current state of the EU doesn't exactly attest to the "unity" that some Europeans seem to feel exists in their continent.

Cause my fourth grade teacher said so!😛

They talk now of Eurasia,like in "1984" but the Ural Mountains make such a handy divider @SW-User
SW-User
@bookerdana I gotta lool that up :v

Cause it has countries in it all speaking different languages

@MarmeeMarch true :v
I'm thinking more in a geographic sense. It is contiguous land connected to Asia but all not considered one
