Why is Europe a continent?

Because "continent" just means "large landmass" even if that landmass is joined to another landmass. Europe is a cultural/historical unit.

@SW-User I am wondering why it is sectioned off from Asia ._.
SW-User
@SW-User Well that's what I mean. It's considered separate from Asia more due to history and culture than due to geography.

It's also of course because the people who first labeled the continents were from Europe. If the continents had been an Asian tradition, they may not have given Europe continent status.

@SW-User riding your train of thought, why would Europe even want continent status? ._.
SW-User
@SW-User I don't know, the current state of the EU doesn't exactly attest to the "unity" that some Europeans seem to feel exists in their continent.
