Do you think prostitution should be legal?

And push more immorality? That’s just one of the reasons why this country has fallen. We’ve pushed God aside and ignored Him, then wonder why we’re in the shape we’re in. God can’t help us, if we condone sin. We are no longer a nation that respects or listens to God.

@LadyGrace I assume you meant "immorality"! I wouldn't advocate believers such as yourself to be compelled to frequent it.
@alan20 Yes, 😂. That's "spellcheck" for you!
It's certainly nothing God would approve of and that's what brings Nations down. Immorality.

It's hard to say...I've heard valid points from both sides and I haven't really decided were I stand on the issue. Personally I don't agree with purchasing sexual favors and it is something I would never do myself (to me sex is a gift of sharing). I would never get involved in a relationship based solely on sex (no matter how good it was) and I definitely wouldn't hire a perfect stranger for it...it would seem so impersonal which would make it so empty and unfulfilling. It's not something I'd want myself, but I wouldn't want to say other's can't indulge if they choose to do so. My biggest concern would be the safety of both the prostitutes and those who would patronize them.

Legal prostitution is always better than illegal one.

Yes.. definitely! Longest profession going!
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
I really think it would help reduce those being forced into it as well as minors. The safety of all involved & then the gov will tax it up like my job lol
Loretta78 · 46-50, F
@walabby EXACTLY. And furthermore there would be protection for both parts: The prostitutes AND the customers (by regularly health tests of the prostitutes).

@Mrsbetweenfatandfit Here's a very true, if funny, story. On our honeymoon we were driving through France. We got completely lost, I was exhausted driving, it was very late. We arrived at the outskirts of a god-forsaken place called Bar-le-Duc. In desperation we entered what looked like a tavern. Very rowdy. The woman behind the bar looked very surprised when I enquired about a room. She handed me a key, advising me to lock the door. It was only when we were in bed that I realised from the noises all around that it was probably a brothel. I didn't tell my new wife that until we were driving away the following morning.

@alan20 oh wow! Lol
Prostitution is fine as long as you film it and call it porn apparently 🤔
AlmostAnAngel · 100+, F
No...they need to get real jobs. The selling of ones body is wrong.
walabby · 61-69, M
Yep. It happens anyway, so it might as well pay tax.
@Heartlander What??
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@LadyGrace Yes, anti-prostitution laws just give politicians an opportunity to jump in bed with pimps and for police to intimidate and selectively harass some while ignoring others.

Streetwalkers and sex solicitation on public streets can, however, be outlawed or controlled for the same reasons why street-venders for anything else are subject to control by city and county laws.
@Heartlander I'm sure some politicians don't need anyone or anything, to give them permission or not, to fornicate. 😂 If a man (or woman) wants to do something like that, they won't let anything stop them.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
It should be decriminalized but not a legalized profession
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@Muthafukajones

In most states in the US, unemployment taxes are paid by the employers to both the state (SUTA) and the federal government (FUTA) and the payment process is basically invisible to employees. The taxes paid are accrued in account for each employer. Then, when there's a claim by a former employee, the money comes from that individual's employers accounts. The tax rates for individual employers are variable based on historical experience and adjusted up and down based on the how much is drawn from their account. It's a little more complicated, but essentially the $$ to pay unemployment benefits comes from the unemployed worker's previous employers.

In the states I'm aware of, only legal "employees" are entitled to receive unemployment benefits. That means that independent contractors, self employed, business owners who aren't also employees don't qualify. If a prostitute working in a brothel is working as an "employee", the responsibility to fund her/his unemployment benefits would come from the business that serves as employer. If she/he works as an independent contractor, there would be no unemployment benefit entitlement. The logic being that independent contractors work for themselves, they are their own employer, so the shortcut process is for independent contractors to fend for themselves.

When people do become unemployed, while they have some requirement to seek employment, they are given the latitude to seek employment within their line of work or profession, and wouldn't be required to take any job that's within their line of skills, professions, experience, etc. An unemployed cook wouldn't be required to take a job as an insurance salesperson, or a prostitute.
Muthafukajones · 46-50, M
Your examples are highly specific to the United States. The requirement to seek work to receive employment insurance benefits is that the person be able to perform the work not that it be work that is related to their skills. Since able bodied people can have sex, people would be required to seek work in brothels in many western countries in many jurisdictions if prostitution were to be legalized. The Health argument doesn’t work either. Presumably most adults monitor their health. Making it mandatory is not going to ensure health or safety any more than it already has..@Heartlander
Heartlander · 80-89, M
@Muthafukajones So in some countries, if a Muslim becomes unemployed, he/she would be required to take a job cleaning a christian church? If not they would lose their unemployment compensation? Would the christian church also be required to hire the unemployed muslim worker?

I think I like the US system better :)

With sex workers, I believe most would prefer to work as independent contractors, even in a brothel. That would give them the flexibility to screen customers based on their judgment, not be subject to direct supervision and all the other things that legally define an employee.

alan20 · M
Yes but it should also be with the full consent of the girl (or possibly guy); preferably run and supervised by a co-operative of those involved. The dangers have to be minimised.
Nyloncapes · 61-69, M
Yes if it is run properly, get them of the streets and safe , and they can pay taxes as well,
dondon · M
it is, oh wait you not every country has made it into the 21th century yet
Tracos · 51-55, M
Yes... I don't understand why it would be illegal in the first place
BobbieT · M
Yes. Its legal in Parts of Nevada & it works.
SW-User
Yeah, and brothels are the home sweet home.
alan20 · M
As long as it's the person's free choice.
Caprice · 41-45, F
Yes, but there should be age restrictions, imo.
DunningKruger · 61-69, M
Legal but strictly regulated.
Sicarium · 46-50, M
Yes. Suppose to be a free country.

I've always been so so about it, but most prostitution laws seem to just punish sex workers and not sex traffickers, and I'm not a fan of the state deciding things as I'm not a fan of states. If prostitution were legal and unionized, I think that would be okay.
Justenjoyit · 56-60, M
It is in most countries in Europe 😊
