I Used to Get the Cane At School

I was caned on the bottom twice at school and I had to bend over a chair each time. The boy in the photo is in one of the positions for our slipperings - the other preferred by some teachers was hands on knees

I didn't get the Cane at school, but I did get the Slipper a black plimsol, I was sent to the Headmaster a Mr Budd I was sternly told off for misbehaving in class, right young man turn round bend over touch your toes 4 whacks later across my school short trousers, when he had finished I had to say thank you Sir sorry Sir, when I got home my parents knew so I got another dose and was sent to bed after 20 minutes in the corner.I was kept in short trousers till I was 15

Having a boy touch his toes really does make him present his backside for the cane perfectly. And it's nice to see short trousers that are exactly that and not flapping around the knees

At my school I had to bend over the back of a chair and grip the front edge or bar just below. Feet either side of the rear chair legs. All of this made the trousers stretch tight.

Yes...I remember getting the cane like that. UK schools in the 60s used it routinely and mostly it was administered to us while we touched our toes, although sometimes it was over a chair or table.

It belt only at my school but only the PE Teacher and a Technical sujects teacher had you bend over sometimes, otherwise over hands.
Other teachers had thier own methods and tools, The blackboard pointer was a favourite of one teacher. Another kept his keys on a lanyard of thick twine and could whack out with that.

Why are schools failing, boys are now achieving less academically than 30 years ago. It seems we cannot recruit enough teachers. Less sports and PE is the norm.

That was how they gave the slipper in class, I remember that. The teacher did not dress like that though, they wore a suit and tie, women dressed smart too.

I am so glad this was not a tradition in our schools.
