@Mrpauldavies I was kept in short trousers till I was 15, but even after that if I misbehaved I would be told to go and put my short trousers on as my parents used that as punishment, along with spells in the corner and having my bottom whacked, I also while wearing short trousers I got the back of my legs smacked

@Naughtyboyneeds At my boarding school everyone wore grey shorts - and they were very short in those days - right up to 18. The only exceptions were the half a dozen who were made prefects, and they could wear long trousers. My parents kept me in shorts at home as well
