I feel unappreciated at work by someone who hired me.

I feel like the program manager doesn't appreciate my efforts on what I do on the job. The only person that actually appreciate my efforts is the children coordinator. Now the children coordinator words of praise is helpful but I really value the program manager words because she is the one who hired me. I never hear her say the "I appreciate you on what you do with the students in school and after school." I also feel intimidated by her which is why I don't hold much of a conversation with her other than a "Hello, how are you?" I don't plan on quitting but I will try to do better at my job. If I don't get noticed by my program manager on the things that I contribute then as long as I know I am trying my best.

Does your program manager offer words of encouragement to others that you have noticed? It is possible that she isn't skilled at commending others on doing their job well. I know it is hard to do your best and feel a bit let down that the people important to you don't notice. It's good that you are not going to let this change how you do your job though. It could be a situation where your program manager only speaks up when there is something wrong and if you don't hear anything, you're doing a great job.

@gmatthewb I have noticed her giving one of my co-worker praise today on something artsy she has planned for summer camp. I believe she does commend others just that I am not that aware of it until I heard her today. I guess you're right if I don't hear any complaints from her then I must be doing ok.

@OpalFlower Well, it is good that this isn't enough to make you want to quit your job. But I can see how it can make your job less fulfilling though. It is good to hear that the children coordinator seems to appreciate your efforts, that is something at least.

I found no matter how good a job I did for someone else
the more money they made ,the more they took credit for my work ,,if you mention what a job you do ,your asked
"did you get paid " thats you praise

I like working for people who buy companies just to fire someone ,who look like plain folks ,talk like plain folk
but could buy and sell most of us

Impress them ,,they open doors for you

Someone who has a boss ,,they look good for being a leader
even if others do the work

Some people don’t appreciate things that easily. That doesn’t mean they are not happy with you, that means they value their appreciation to an extent that they wouldn’t render it unless something extraordinary(as per their measures) is done. Just keep working and keep improving. Her appreciation wouldn’t matter when you move out of this job. What would matter is what you learn and how you are going to utilize it.

Why not arrange a sit down meeting and ask for some feedback on your performance and how you can improve?
ozgirl512 · 26-30, F
@OpalFlower probably correct, but if you ask it shows you're keen to improve ;)
