I feel unappreciated at work by someone who hired me.

I feel like the program manager doesn't appreciate my efforts on what I do on the job. The only person that actually appreciate my efforts is the children coordinator. Now the children coordinator words of praise is helpful but I really value the program manager words because she is the one who hired me. I never hear her say the "I appreciate you on what you do with the students in school and after school." I also feel intimidated by her which is why I don't hold much of a conversation with her other than a "Hello, how are you?" I don't plan on quitting but I will try to do better at my job. If I don't get noticed by my program manager on the things that I contribute then as long as I know I am trying my best.

Does your program manager offer words of encouragement to others that you have noticed? It is possible that she isn't skilled at commending others on doing their job well. I know it is hard to do your best and feel a bit let down that the people important to you don't notice. It's good that you are not going to let this change how you do your job though. It could be a situation where your program manager only speaks up when there is something wrong and if you don't hear anything, you're doing a great job.

@gmatthewb I have noticed her giving one of my co-worker praise today on something artsy she has planned for summer camp. I believe she does commend others just that I am not that aware of it until I heard her today. I guess you're right if I don't hear any complaints from her then I must be doing ok.

@OpalFlower Well, it is good that this isn't enough to make you want to quit your job. But I can see how it can make your job less fulfilling though. It is good to hear that the children coordinator seems to appreciate your efforts, that is something at least.
