Ok, thoughts and opinions welcomed!!

Mileage reimbursement versus Monthly Stipends for employees who drive their personal vehicle for company business.
AllAboutLaffs · 70-79, M
It depends on how often and how far you think you'll be traveling ...
AllAboutLaffs · 70-79, M
@skmokisses And for 2019, the IRS is allowing $0.58 per miles for business travel

EDIT: just checked ... looks like the deduction is available only for self-employed. But, most employers are using the 0.58/mile rate ... so do some recalculations

@AllAboutLaffs We are currently reimbursed mileage at a rate of .55 per mile, so I'm figuring around $385. Should I decided lean toward the stipend I would propose a figure. Just trying to decided if it's worth it or stick w/ the reimbursement.
AllAboutLaffs · 70-79, M
@skmokisses Just keep good records (when, where, why and mileage) ... you may not need it for the stipend but you will for the reimbursement
It’s hard to know the answer without knowing whether your travel will be consistent or variable.

Companies have different rules about accountability - some do not require you to provide receipts on a stipend but you may have to with reimbursement.

@Mamapolo2016 Would be rather consistent, weekly actually.
If you have a choice, try it both ways. If you don’t have a lot of loose gas money laying around, weekly reimbursement might be best. That way you don’t have to wait a month to recoup your expenses.@skmokisses

I would do mileage reimbursement...
However if you did stipends or vehicle expense allowances; stipulate that it’s for both mileage, fuel, and standard vehicle maintenance upkeep
Management needs to set the $/mile rate.
I would say Mileage, even that can be fairly costly, i know many employees love it as they make money off it. How about providing them rental for a day, if it is not daily/frequent travel. Our company adopted to a 60 mile radius personal vehicle use. Policy.

It actually depends on how the stipend is handled. You might come out further ahead because you can deduct "unreimbursed work related expenses" on your taxes if the exceed 2% of your income.
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@goliathtreeI did not know that, thanks!
AN1991 · 31-35, M
Short answer would be stipend

Long As answer would be ill make my travel plan and then compare both options
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@AN1991 I’m considering the latter.
AN1991 · 31-35, M
@skmokisses I can help you in detail with that, so you don't loose out financially
skmokisses · 46-50, F
@AN1991 I appreciate that! 😊

Monthly, they get very particular with miles. The records need to be meticulous and even then they find a way to make it seem as if they shouldn't have to pay.

Stipends. We do it with phones. Easier to track.
