Does Anyone know about manufactured homes here?

I don't know much about trailer homes but my mom and I purchased 2 for a property. The salesman has been giving us the run around for months. He finally dropped the units off to our land but they have been sitting on wheels for 2 months.

When I purchased these used units they were on steel posts strapped down. We were sold that we would get the exact same set up and much was made of how great this foundation is.

Now months later the owner's set-up guys have told me that they are going to transfer the units to cinder blocks and not the steel legs.

This sounds cheap to me. Its not what we discussed.
Things to know are: I'm in a desert remote unincorporated area so there are no regulations to consider. The land is very dry since its a desert. The land is very sandy and rocky. I don't think that sinking is an issue. Winds can be very high.

Should I fight for the strap down on the steel legs or accept the cinderblock.
The set up guy told me that cinder block is much better and more requested which I think is a load of bull.

steel can rust. I'd think the brick blocks would be better. I mean i cant imagine what the steel strap thing looks like, but cinderblocks make more sense to me. would the steel legs make a difference in like high winds or a tornado or something?

@REMsleep was it written in your contract or sales receipt?
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@Penny Not specifically. My contract simply says full set up included.

@REMsleep well, if thats what they told you you were getting and even made a big deal about i'd bitch and moan until they agree. would it really be worth all the fuss to have to return them and try and get all your money back?

If you aren't getting what you paid for, fight, make a report to whatever zoning board is in your county/state, and don't give in. Honestly, a lot of housing things get fixed once the relevant office is contacted by certified mail.

@raysam363 It would never go anywhere. I reviewed the contract and it simply says "full set up included".
We discussed the steel legs but its not specified.

@REMsleep Check the local regulations then, see if what they offer is even allowed, but if you don't have it in writing you're kinda screwed.

Cinder blocks are fine , just make sure they anchor them and under pen them

I'd be surprised if the county would not require the tie down straps

they are rated for high winds.

what does your sales contract say?

if they give you a bunch of static you could check with whatever agency regulates them - might make them treat you right

@Pretzel My county does not require anything. People next door live in an old bus

@REMsleep ohhh
Sounds like the guy is a crook.. your mom should google review businesses before she buys anything major like that

However i do know that they are usually set on concrete blocks and strapped down as well ..
