My question is about Hoarders?

My brother is a terrible hoarder.
The house he lives in is a torrid mess.
I an staying w him a few days for he had a stroke. He's recouperating yet seems to think in his own reality. He's been this way, yet gotten worse. He has debts terrible I'm at a loss here.
The house he lives in is our family house we grew up in..
It's heartbreaking 💔.

Any insight would be appreciated!

It's all about loss. It is definitely a mental health issue...it's so very sad. Now though, people can't be thrown out of their housing because of it...they must be offered therapeutic help. They were once tossed out into the streets

It’s a mental illness and usually requires professional help.
He needs to see that he has a problem that he needs help with before you can help him to find the right professionals that he needs to help him in his recovery.

However, given that you say that he's just had a stroke, which area of his life is recovery needed the most right now???
Is he on any medication? Hoarders is an OCD subtype and requires medication.

@Spoiledbrat some friends came by and we did that. Got at least a clear path to walk and sit. There is sooo so much more.
That’s what I was afraid of and now that’s he’s had a stroke it okay to take some matters into your hands. If you don’t, it may could be a safety hazard. But you know best. @aradia11

Probably needs to see a therapist, depends on the reason.
My fathers mother starting hoarding after her old house burnt down in a fire and you could barely move in the house from old news papers and junk. Some people do it for a sense of control I think.
I think so too. I actually find it chaotic. I personally find new strategies to organize and declutter very therapeutic. @Ryannnnnn

@Spoiledbrat Likewise, I actually find it depressing to live around, gives me a weird unease.

Are you sure he is hoarding? Does he keep bringing things into the home? People often mistake clutter for hoarding
