Why do people care so much about flags?

SW-User
It's about respect, honor and love of country...

It's sad that you have to ask..
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
Words that maybe don't need to be used in relation to cloth.

I feel sorry for you..

I feel sorry for people who care so much about cloth.
No. He's a winner. He has respect. The flag is not supposed to touch the ground. This guy probably has a sense of responsibility and accountability and other traits that are sadly lacking in the real losers in this world. No. The poodle sharks will probably devour this guy, but he is the winner here.

@puck61: It's a bit of cloth
@thatscottishguy: It's not so much the action but the heart behind it. I've seen what the flag burners bring to the table. I'll take this guy over a clueless 'anti patriot' any time.

This guy could be a clueless patriot.

@IstillmissEP: Agreed 👍

Flags are representations of allegiance. I.e: teams. Humans are naturally "us vs them" minded. This is why war has played such a huge role in our past. And present. And future. Its why different countries exist, despite being on the overall same "team", that being "human".

Its why people have died at sports events, brawls erupting when someone says some shit about the other's sports team.

In effect, this guy is showing hos loyatly to his "team", as means to solidify his status in that team: which confers various benefits.
@IrretrievableObito: It may not bolster my point, but it undeniably true.

@thatscottishguy: It's not so much the cloth as what the cloth represents. Granted, I do see the irony of being worried about a piece of cloth on the ground. I forget exactly, but i think the American flag touching the ground symbolizes defeat. Sometime in the civil war, maybe, they came up with that arbitrary-seeming-rule, as a means to say, "America will never fall". In essence, it's just social ettiqute.

But, the cloth is representative of America. It's like some personal effect you may have that you are sentimental about, if you have anything like tgat. Something your mom or dad gave you, a best friend, a lover. You probably wouldn't want it being damaged or someone disrespecting it, right? Idrc, but just explaining the reasoning behind it. Because there is reasoning. Even if it's stupid. But, sentimentality comes from the heart, not the brain.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
No point in disrespecting cloth or caring if someone does.
Smtwn829 · 36-40, M
I do not know the histor behind other flags or how to observe proper etiquette of them. But I know the American flag.

The American flag is a representation of the good times and the bad. It represents the men and women that have died or passed away to build a country.

Like America has the tomb of the unknown soldier, as a representation of all the men and women that have fought for America and died a death we may never know. Respecting a flag of any country is a way to pay respect to those who came before us.

Blatant disregard of showing respect for a flag should be a federal offense.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
I find your country confusing at times 😂.
Smtwn829 · 36-40, M
@thatscottishguy: right now in Europe people are getting arrested and put in jail for questioning a religion. I find that weird. Go to jail for disrespecting paper and words.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
Please show me an example of one person going to jail just for questioning a religion.
not all heroes wear capes

When Wembley* the dog farts on the Scottish flag, its funny.

Its just a piece of clothe, right? 😜
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
@Burnley123: That's a great advert.😂
Burnley123 · 41-45, M
@thatscottishguy: TBF you can laugh at that. If the Americans had a Mexican dog farting on their flag, not many would find it funny.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
@Burnley123: You should watch the other Irn Bru adverts. They have had a lot of good ones.

I'd probably let that flag hit the ground!

Are you aware that your profile picture is a flag?
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
@AnnoyingAf: Really?! I use that on this because of the independence thing but I won't be in tears should I see a saltire on the ground or getting burned.
Goralski · 51-55, M
Now ya gotta burn it

@Foxboy: It's cloth.
You have a flag as your avatar...?
@thatscottishguy: Understood. It's what it symbolizes, I imagine, especially to those who've served in the armed forces. Even so, I agree that some value the flags more than they do the people they represent.
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
I just saw the picture and thought it would be funny to see the Americans respond.
@thatscottishguy: Some will definitely relate to that fellow more than others.
pianoplayingsteve · 31-35, M
Well apparently putting it as your facebook profile picture fights terrorism, it disarms their bombs or something
