Are you liking George W, as a former President?

I am liking him more and more.
I dont agree with many of his policy decisions and his reckless war in Iraq....but I wasn't there, I don't know what he was being told.

But he is being interviewed this week, and the more I see him, the more I like him. I think his work with veterans is admirable, and I'm going to buy his book about the veterans. The profits go to veterans causes.

I am definitely on side with The Democrats, and I hope they rebuild into something other than a 'Let's have a Coronation for Hillary' party, but I do admit, I like the humanity I see in George W. Bush.

For the record, I also like Melania Trump. I think she will be great.
I would have loved to have seen Sanders as President I am Still adjusting to the Donald, but I don't think they all have horns and are evil.

I think there are political and philosophical differences, and there should be.

History will show him favorably, No one liked Harry S. Truman at the end of his terms. War time Presidents have it very difficult and I feel for them. President G. W. Bush was and is a human who had to make terrible decisions that none of us would want to even know about.

@CassandraFemale17: Very thoughtful and well delivered opinions. It's a shame that people prefer to fan the flames of divisiveness today than work towards bettering the world as they are able. Effect change by doing what you can locally. Work at the shelters, donate to those less fortunate, support a cause locally and if everyone does that......We win. Or, spew venom about what you cannot change, scream for expensive "special inquiries" and gain nothing. We have what we have for the next four years, keep your eyes open and maintain adherence to the rules of law and then vote again people

@gdon39: not forgetting, we have huge opportunities in Congress in 2018. Change can start in 2018 for those not supporting the Trump agenda.

But it will take leadership, vision, and an ability to translate that vision into a call, or a passion within people they will connect with.

That was all missing with Hillary.
I have written elsewhere on this site all about my feelings there. I won't go into it all now.

The right leader will make all the difference. The wrong one will make none.

@gdon39: and thank you for your kind words, too , btw

There's no denying that he was an idiot and a puppet during his tenure as president, but he at least came off as someone that genuinely cared about his country and its people. Trump seems to only care about winning and his fragile ego
I like his paintings.
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
So do I.
I have considerable more respect for him as a person. As much as I disagreed with "Dubya", and as many mistakes as I saw, I never thought he was a racist or sexist, and I never thought he was a bad person.

👍 My feelings exactly.

Great answer. And you always do so, with far fewer words than I.

Lol. I manage to do so too on Twitter.
But on this site, I elaborate much more

I saw him in person at a rally. But I had the privilege of spending a whole day with his mom Barbara. You wouldn't meet a nicer and more compassionate person then her. He comes from good stock.
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
@abe182: wow, thank you.

Well, that's up to you.
We were always encouraged to read the news and to bring real world stories to the dinner table. My parents are extraordinary good Listeners. Many parents are not. They TELL their kids opinions to have basically, and thus rush their kids away from the dinner table.

My parents are still the most interesting people I speak with. If I say something they wouldn't agree with....they suggest other ways to see things....and they suggest seeing things reasonably, with thoughtfulness.

Then there were games, like knowing world capitals, borders around each country, leaders from around the world, etc, etc.

We are all interested, engaged, curious, and reaching out in learning. That is a tribute to my parents. Not to ourselves.

@CassandraFemale17:
WOW! As a dad, that was beautiful.
You do have excellent parents.
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
@abe182: thank you. I think so too.

He was very loyal to his father and very upset when Clinton beat him because Perot split the vote in a vendetta.
He was a frat party boy from college who had a bad coke habit. The war in Iraq was because his Father was almost assassinated by Suddam while in Saudi Arabia. Anyone using common sense knew that the WMD was a "hack" argument.
He presents a great image. The reason he was so quiet after his presidency was not because he was gracious; it was because he almost bankrupted this nation because of his incessant unchecked deregulation of the economy.

Where were the weapons of mass destruction?
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
There were actually nerve gases found. Nothing of the sort they expected, but Saddam did kill thousands of his own people by gassing them.

He hadn't harboured Taliban or Al Queda, and thus had nothing to do with 9/11, so the war wasn't on sound or even legal footing from the beginning. The Middle East is in even a bigger mess for it all than before.

But we are here and now. We can neither revisit that, and retry it, and we will never get a redo. So we stand where we are, commit to better, and insist on it.

In the meantime, seeing George W, knowing how he was hated so much, and understanding that hate, I am kind of relieved and pleasantly so, to see what he is doing now, and the good that comes from it.

Sure, if things were different, life would be perfect. Butlife isn't different, and happily ever after is for children's books.

Are we going to carry hate forever? We don't have to forget. We do have to try to forgive. At least I want to try.
MrBrownstone · 46-50, M
@CassandraFemale17: Are you going to carry hate for trump?
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
@MrBrownstone: for 5 years, probably. Lol

But I'm working on it. I would rather not.

I would rather channel those negative energies into positive actions. So he may be the unintended catalyst for my working deliberately and conscientiously against him.

But hey, I'm sure he will be fine without my support. He's done well without me so far!

:)

There may be hope for you yet, lass
I like him too.
Goralski · 51-55, M
Are we forgetting he started all the shit in d middle east
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
@softspokenman: exactly
@CassandraFemale17: As a man I am sure he has regrets and he did show emotion talking about the vets.
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
@softspokenman: I saw the Matt Lauer interview with both himself and a number of vets. He not only painted them, he came to know each one of them personally.

That is admirable.
It is also admirable their own affection for him. And the fact he has had them, and many other vets to his ranch in Texas. All in all, a good man who had difficult decisions to make in difficult times.
hes always been someone who seems very easy going and personable.

Ha ha , that's gold .
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
I hope you meant that favourably. Lol
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
That feels when you're actually starting to miss Bush because of the current US President.
CassandraFemale17 · 26-30, F
Lol, maybe.

But I'd miss Obama a lot more before I miss Bush.
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
I know.
