I’m embarrassed that I have to apply for food stamps

if you need them don't be. so many abuse the system
Jasondf · M
As long as we have billionaires and homeless people don’t be ashamed of anything you can get from our government if you need it.

Even though having to apply for food stamps appears to be a personal problem - in fact it's not. It's the result of flaws in the fabric of society itself.
Do not take it as a personal defeat. You're not alone. You are one of many. Meet others with similar problems. Get organized. Turn your shame into power. ✊

@helenS Couldn't agree more, HtS. 👍️

That's what it's for, don't be embarrassed, your tax dollars fund it.

As everyone else has already said, there is no shame in accepting help. As long as you are doing your best, that’s all you can do. 👍🏻

These are very challenging times. I would be amazed if more than half of the people in the USA are not feeling challenged financially.

We don't want you to go hungry, especially if you're feeding children.

Dont be its not your fault .Most unemployment is due to human modernisation . Where you had 100s working in factories its now all mechanised putting 100s out of work .Computors and robots have been the bane of human existence and its only gonna get worse .

Unless you are growing a garden, hunting and fishing, the minimum cost of feeding someone in the US is between $25 and $30 a week. i.e. $3 to $4 per day. Yes, you can do it cheaper with a sack of beans and a sack of rice, or cheap junk food, but that's not healthy.

You can also do the heroics mentioned above, but you still need to eat while watching the garden to grow.

Food stamps (SNAP) are there to help you bridge the gap until you get back in the swing of things.

Oh, and don't forget, the "S" in SNAP stands for supplemental, meaning that they don't always pay for everything.

Swallow your pride, and ask for assistance but never abuse the system as other tax payers are supporting you, not the government your fellow Americans
