How skilled are you at debating?

Where do your arguments usually fall on this chart?

BlueVeins · 22-25
I tend to stick to Level 5 and 6, with occasional Level 7 arguments when I believe that my opponent is arguing in good faith, or at least is arguing under the veneer of good faith. I'll sometimes use Level 4 arguments in response to absurd posts or posts that contain no supporting evidence. Some points just don't really deserve serious argument imo. I basically never use Level 3s, and when I do, it's basically always in the case of kink-shaming or something similar. Level 2 doesn't really exist for me.

Level 1s are reserved on a no-first-use basis; it's understood that once these are pulled, the two-way discourse is over and it's now a competition to humiliate the other to onlookers. So my job is to damage the other person's character as much as possible while minimizing damage to my own. And there's no holding back with these. It's OK for them to be a little cerebral or a little basic as the situation demands.

Counterargument ,if I am dealing with a rational adult willing to see the other side of the coin and share back and two ,I will take the time ,I love to learn new things and facts I was unaware of .
I know I don't know anything ,I am a flea and all I know is nothing but a speck compared to all the info and wisdom and knowledge out there .
But that is rare now days to find people willing to just discuss something ,
everyone is looking to change people to their way of thinking ,even if its wrong so normally I keep my opinions to myself .
I am not into arguing just for the sake of arguing .

Many times today ,I know certain things that was never public record or you really have to be willing to do the research to know all the facts .

When dealing with people who only quote stats to me ,or only scratched the surface of a subject for a collage grade its to frustrating for me .
They think they learned it all in a semester ,and when you have put years into a study ,but they don't want to read ,just keep quoting highlights of their little report ,its not worth my time .
I let them think they won and back out .
If they only want the story that supports their agenda ,
I can help educate the ignorant ,I can't fix stupid .

I am raising a 12-year old, he likes to argue about stuff so I told him he needed to join a debate team. And then like magic the small school wants to start a debate team this week and he took a flyer back to school to turn in to the headmaster.

So many dismiss the source and attack the character of the author instead of understanding what the author is saying I have noticed. Especially creation institute authors. And say things like he’s an idiot or resorts to other name calling (pink and orange)
I try very hard to debate fair and I state why an argument is incorrect and why my argument is better (counteratgument) 🙂
🤷‍♀️ No idea, some days I am better at debating than others. Lol

I am at the counterargument stage. I am fully able to provide refutation with documentation but I find it exhausting. We have people on SW who will argue on just for the joy of it.

Before the bottom phase they will try to twist the conversation into another issue as though that strengthens their argument.
It really depends on what I'm debating. If it's just facts then probably right at the top. Your facts are wrong these are the correct facts. Or my facts are wrong thank you for showing me the correct facts,. Now when it comes to debating things on a more emotional level I'd probably be somewhere in the middle. It's hard to tell someone their feelings are wrong I just may feel differently about something.
I enjoy mass debating.

Counterargument
BlueVeins · 22-25
@DearAmbellina2113 It's a pretty good move.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
Counterargument. I was lot better at using data points than at proving why my stance was better on moral grounds.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
@Longpatrol fyi I was part of my college’s debate club
Lackwittyname · 51-55, M
Probably counterargument, always feel it is good to back something up with evidence and reasoning
RosaDawn · 46-50, F
Contradiction. There are better things to do than argue online for hours.
CodeLyoko · 16-17, M
@RosaDawn Yeah last 2 sw fights i had i regret because i realised i wasted hours and it just really wasnt worth it
JoeyFoxx · 51-55, M
I am usually much closer to the top

Though name calling is a nice easy fall back.

🤪
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
