Sometimes you're starving when you get off the plane. When I landed in Seattle my first stop was a burger joint. 🤷🏻♀️ Then we tried the local cuisine later.

I live in Seattle. Our local cuisine is from other countries, except for the seafood! lol@DearAmbellina2113

Ew. Although McDonald’s is not the same in every country. The worst is in America. There are some countries where the food is decently made, but still it’s McDonald’s, go get something local if you’re traveling abroad.

Lol. When I was in Spain, we met a family that owned a number of McDonald's restaurants. Guess where they ate every opportunity they had? It boggles my mind. Such a waste imo. For me, experiencing the local food and wine is a big part of the reason for traveling. I like the experience of trying new things.

If you want fast food (and why not?) there are French outlets which at least gives a flavour(!) of the country. I am the most conservative eater there is, but at least I try something verging on the local. Having said that, when I was young and inexperienced in travelling alone, the US chains were a safe haven.

Sacre bleu! 😱

Maybe they want to eat quickly and get on with seeing the city they came to see. There will be plenty of time for better food, I am sure.
Edit: I will never understand the need to care about how other people spend their time or what they eat.

@JaggedLittlePill thanks fair enough! Still a bit of a waste in my opinion, but I can understand. 😁
Also I didn't really care that much, thought it was more amusing than anything aye

Is Maccas mish seriously some new trendy way of saying you're going to McDonald's?
SeductiveCactus · 26-30, F
@SW-User it's just Australian slang hahah. We shorten everything.

@SeductiveCactus I was curious enough that I had to google this...a regional trend is at least a bit less cringe worthy. I was so worried people just thought it sounded cool.

Well, when I buy their food I can complain about what they eat.

Is there some kind of unspoken rule that when in a new country where you will (presumably) be staying for several days and have many opportunities for fine dining, the first meal must be an exclusive one?
I know for sure that if I was just coming off a plane, and had limited time before heading out into the city for a tour, I'd grab something quick and easy.

@PirateMonkeyCabinet well I mean, personally I would get something French if I was there, which is why I think it's a bit of a waste. Everyone is different though hahah.

@SeductiveCactus To each their own I guess. Besides, I don't know how long a trip it was for them.
I remember when I visited Australia, when I finally got off the plane I just wanted to stuff something down. Hungry, utterly exhausted and body being a bit messed up in general from the ordeal, grabbing something quick and "safe" would have been all good with me. And by "safe" I mean that McDonald's is something I know I won't dislike and have never had an adverse reaction too in any way. This would have been even more true if I had a packed program for the day. In the end we got a homemade meal, but hey, I would have been just as fine with McDonald's at that point.
I still ate a lot of local cuisine. Even if my very first meal hadn't been a local treat, it wouldn't have detracted from the experience and I really wouldn't have missed out considering all the stuff I tried the other days.
