Is there some kind of unspoken rule that when in a new country where you will (presumably) be staying for several days and have many opportunities for fine dining, the first meal must be an exclusive one?
I know for sure that if I was just coming off a plane, and had limited time before heading out into the city for a tour, I'd grab something quick and easy.

@PirateMonkeyCabinet well I mean, personally I would get something French if I was there, which is why I think it's a bit of a waste. Everyone is different though hahah.

@SeductiveCactus To each their own I guess. Besides, I don't know how long a trip it was for them.
I remember when I visited Australia, when I finally got off the plane I just wanted to stuff something down. Hungry, utterly exhausted and body being a bit messed up in general from the ordeal, grabbing something quick and "safe" would have been all good with me. And by "safe" I mean that McDonald's is something I know I won't dislike and have never had an adverse reaction too in any way. This would have been even more true if I had a packed program for the day. In the end we got a homemade meal, but hey, I would have been just as fine with McDonald's at that point.
I still ate a lot of local cuisine. Even if my very first meal hadn't been a local treat, it wouldn't have detracted from the experience and I really wouldn't have missed out considering all the stuff I tried the other days.
