The IRS never calls.Nor do they come to your home or place of business unless they have a warrant to either arrest you and/or seize any records pertaining to their investigations as outlined in their warrant.This will be carried out by IRS federal agents.If no warrants are involved,they simply send you official correspondence of their findings pertaining to any omissions,discrepancies, irregularities,nonpayment of taxes etc. and how they intend to proceed against you along with giving you a limited timeframe to reply plus the opportunity to schedule an interview at your local IRS office,but never simply ignore any IRS official correspondence.Take care!

AFAIK they always communicate via letter. If you get a phone call you can be reasonably sure it's a scam. If in doubt hang up anyway and then look up the IRS's number and call them.

Oh, they send you a nice letter and then, if you don't respond, they throw eggs at your door and start 'blowing raspberries' at you (I think is the phrase). Then they start swinging on your garden gate... but really hard and making it squeak!! They're animals! Brutes!! Savages!!!
